Reminds me of Two Characters... the Comic Strip Character Zero in Beetle Bailey, & the Late Comedian Actress Gracie Allen, the Dingbat Wife of Comedian Actor George Burns who Passed in 1964, (Him in 1996) who were Really Stupid Characters.
With Gracie Allen She was a Stupid Dingbat, I Remember in one of the Radio Shows with her & Husband Starring in, She Ordered a New Cadillac & Wanted the Windshield Wipers Inside the Car so she could Crack Nuts with the Windshield Wipers, & there was Other Crazy Bullshit from this Dingbat, if you Ever Watched or Listened to & her Husband George's Radio Comedies, or T.V. Show that Ran in the 1950's, She had Kind of a Stupid Smile on her Face when you Saw her on T.V. Always Smiling, looked Cute, but Straight Out Dingbat!
As For the Comic Strip Character Zero, he was a Stupid Ass Soldier, & would do Things in a Stupid Way, Still see his Character in the Comic Strips Today.

He was confused about what he needed to do, but he probably would know that the "their" in your post should be "there". He would also probably give you some slack about it, why don't you give him some?
Now that is just plain petty. Did that make you feel better about yourself??

I was a teacher for 30 years and while you're yanking his chain what you are saying is absolutely true. When I had new students come into my classroom I always made the assumption that they KNOW NOTHING until they could prove otherwise.

Apparently many do not read carefully. First I NEVER said anything about the individual being old. I just referred to him as a gentleman. Some are embellishing my words. I also said that I helped him after he picked up his tripod and finished by making sure he got a quality image and understood how to do it. I also noted I had conducted training sessions at the various clubs before we went to teach people how to get the shots. While at the shoot I was constantly being asked questions by many people in a limited time frame, as the light was fading. I was helping several people at one time and could not spend unlimited time with each person. At the end of the night the gentleman, (note I did not say "OLD") thanked me for my help and asked when I was going to have another outing.
Finally, I did not laugh out loud an said nothing offensive. I just smiled to myself. You can spend your life worrying about being politically correct or you can find humor in the things around you and enjoy life.
Have a good day, and try to smile just once.
I did learn something out of all this. I'll never share another story. :-(

I retract my statement regarding you, but not my comments about those who commented on his intelligence. I don't know where my idea that the gentleman was "old' came from, whether I supplied it myself or inferred it from one of the other comments, but either way, I was wrong. Thank you for being out there helping others with their photography. That is more than what I am doing. I will concede that there seems to a considerable number of responders in this forum who seem to be disgruntled fellows wearing their skivvies sitting in front of their computers taking potshots at the people who are actually out there in the arena.
This is like kids fighting on Face Book.

And it is truly amazing how many different ways there are to KNOW NOTHING!

I think most of the reactions were to comments that others made, not so much to your original post. While it is true that there are some newcomers who are unable or unwilling to learn, and that can result in some humorous situations, it is also true that there are bullying know-it-alls who spend most of their time ridiculing others on photography forums. Your post seems to have "hit that nerve" so to speak. You did not say anything about "old" or "stupid," but others did.
Sorry the thread "went south" on you. Maybe this will be a step toward more understanding and less bickering around here.
Beautiful work at your website, by the way. I just spent some time there this afternoon. Beautiful images.

Thank you Mike. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to my website. Over the years I have spent a great deal of time helping others. If someone asks, I'll go way out of my way to try and help. Generally people are appreciative.
Thanks for chiming in in a friendly manner.

Is there a pill for compassion toward our fellow man and for simply showing the man how to raise the angle of view on the tripod?
For me, I don't believe that happened. I think he just wanted to add a little embellishment.
I made this reply not to put down anyone's intelligence instead my meaning is that a person "knows nothing" if they are not exposed to the knowledge needed to complete whatever task that is to be achieved.
A teacher at a school I worked at for 15 years had a big sign by his classroom door.
Ignorance is not a crime.
Ignorance is curable.
Not curing it should be a crime.
Agree completely. I taught at-risk kids and you would be surprised at the number of high schoolers reading on a third-grade reading level. That's why I assume they know nothing until they prove me otherwise. One way I did this is to ask them to read something to me and THEN ask them to explain to me what they have just read. Once this was done I could individualize the lessons for each kid.
