I will tell you about the camera gear I have, and what I will end up taking. Mind you, I am not a professional, I am not concerned about any of my photos being in National Geographic, just want to take some decent photos, so my wife can scrapbook our "bucket list" trip. I have the Nikon D7500, a Nikkor 10-20mm lens, a Nikkor 10-55mm lens, a Nikkor 50mm F1.8 lens, and a Tamron 70-210mm F4 lens, plus an assortment of filters. I will take the Tamron 70-210, the Nikkor 50mm, and the Nikkor 10-20mm lenses, plus a cpl filter. Rest assured Mr. Keen (I am assuming you are male), I am capable of toting such a heavy load, I am capable of changing lenses as soften as I need to, and I am far from a pimp. However, since you are so concerned about my health and ability to handle my photo gear, you are more than welcome to accompany my wife and myself, AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE, to make sure that I remain in good health, and am able to take the quality of pictures that you are obviously capable of taking.

Ar you sure you can't find room for the 10-55? It will be lonely at home by itself.

Keen, your response is totally rude and classless. You are so inappropriate.

The more important the shoot will be the more important a sharp lens will be. No superzoom lens with that range is going to be sharp. Are you too feeble to carry a bag with several lenses? Are you just too lazy to change lenses? Are you too poor to be able to buy, or rent, more lenses? Are you an industry pimp for a manufacturer, or retailer, trying to sell us on the idea of buying a superzoom lens? What is your reason for wanting to take just one lens? I see no photographic reason for doing so.

You are not helping to talk like that, just trying to build yourself up... Bull S__t

The Nikon 18-300 will deliver un-cropped images that are sharp and very enlargeable.
My only complaint about the lens as a one and done carry all day lenses is the fact that it is heavy. I would strongly suggest a padded shoulder strap like the original black rapid strap.
My personal favorite travel lens for my D7200 was the Nikon 18-200 VRII lens. Great lens and much lighter than the 18-300. And, IMHO, sharper lens than the 18-300 at the telephoto end of the lens.

Please inform me of your testing procedure and personal practice of such a hypothesis. In detail please.

A lot depends on what lenses you have and how much you're willing to spend. That lens covers a pretty good range. Just how serious is the photography going to be. Is this a photography trip or a pleasure trip.

It is sad that you are so insecure that you must resort to putting down others to make yourself feel better. I will pray for you, my friend, that God might put some self-confidence in your life, and some empathy in your heart.

We did 9 national parks at the same time of year. I had a d7000 and the lens I used 95% of the time was my 16-85. Mind you I brought everything, 40 pounds!, including a rented Nikon 10-20(?). I had brought my 70-200 but found I didn’t need the reach. I used the rented wide angle about 5%. You are right to go light!

There is NO REASON to be so rude to this person. Or sarcastic. We need to be a little nicer to each other.

You, more than likely are going to need more reach. I have an 18-300. Good walk around lens but too short for some wildlife.
If you're going for Grizzlies and Wolves at Yellowstone you may wish you had something longer. One lens is going to be a stretch. If you are only going to be doing landscapes your 18-300 will probably be fine. For some animals you will see like elk, deer, and bison, they will probably be close enough that reach won't be a problem.

While I like my 18-200 as a walk around lens, I assume that since you're going to 5 parks you'll be driving. In that case I would take everything and then depending on what the sites are I would decide what to carry each day.
