Amazon rainforest fire: Astronaut's dire plea to save the Amazon - 'We need O2 to survive
"The Amazon rainforest provides the world with more than 20 percent of the oxygen we breathe.
But more than 75,000 fires have decimated the rainforest since the start of the year, with ongoing fires and smoke visible from space.
NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, who last flew over the Amazon onboard the International Space Station (ISS) in 2016, took to Twitter to share his shock over the wildfires. The astronaut reminded his 5.6 million followers how important the Amazon rainforest is for the survival of the human species.

Unless, and until, the Brazilian government acts, these fires will be "normal". While the dry season is in effect, the majority of fires are caused by cattle ranchers and farmers, using the fires to clear land for their use.

I saw a report that most of these fires were started by people.

"Brazil has had more than 72,000 fire outbreaks so far this year, an 84% increase on the same period in 2018, according to the country’s National Institute for Space Research. More than half of them were in the Amazon.
There was a sharp spike in deforestation during July, which has been followed by extensive burning in August. Local newspapers say farmers in some regions are organising “fire days” to take advantage of weaker enforcement by the authorities.
Since Bolsonaro took power the environment agency has issued fewer penalties, and ministers have made clear that their sympathies are with loggers rather than the indigenous groups who live in the forest. The head of Brazil’s space agency was fired last month after the president disputed the official deforestation data from satellites."
Not only all that, but the soil is only good to grow crops for a couple years, it's actually very thin and gets depleted quickly.
Guess money means more to the Brazillian president than breathing.

Human avarice and greed - combined with overpopulation (significantly contributed to by insane religious dogma to "go forth and multiply") is dooming the planet.

And it doesn't here with the present administration?

Take your (dayammed) quote to the attic, please.
We manufacture O2 folks, so lets calm down about not having enough O2 to survive.
NOAA reports smoke cover over Brazil about the same as past years, slightly lower than 2016.
NOAA also reports it's summertime in Greenland and glaciers are melting normally.
