There has been three firmware updates for my Canon 6d. I am not sure if we can just upload the latest only as it is the only only I could see on the Canon site. There is an unclear instruction saying “ If the last update is not on the camera to +1 . Does mean I need to put the older ones first and where to find them on the Canon site. Thank you

Firmware updates are cumulative. Simply download and install the latest available firmware. Everything prior is included.

Honestly, it’s trivial to do. Just make sure the camera battery is charged so it doesn’t shut off in the middle of the update.

Follow the simple instructions carefully and you won't have any problems unless you consider yourself computer illiterate. I have never heard or seen any instructions which suggests that Canon recommends that they install the firmware upgrade themselves. If you called them about it, perhaps you gave them the impression you would be overwhelmed by the process.

Download the update, read the instructions, follow them carefully, I would recommend using a cable connection, but it is much simpler and less scary than it sounds. It is also a very good idea. Be patient and let the process complete. Once completed you'll probably wonder why it felt intimidating!

Good luck, but it isn't a big deal.

The first time I updated my Fuji camera the tech at Fuji walked me through it over the phone. Ask A tech at Canon to do the same.

Download the firmware onto your desktop/laptop. Copy the file onto your SD card, make sure it is on the root directory and not buried in another directory on the card. Put your card in your camera and go to the firmware menu and tell it to update. it will do all the work from there.

Canon updates are easy enough with step by step instructions provided that a Geico caveman (or woman) could do it. As stated, they are cumulative so it doesn't matter what level you are updating from.

That's just a CYA disclaimer. Firmware updates are pretty easily done. But they absolutely have to be done correctly or there's risk of "bricking" the camera... Making it completely non-functional and requiring a trip to the service dept for corrections. Follow the firmware update instructions very, very carefully and precisely.

I did the update on the Canon 7dmkii as there was only one update but I miss 3 updates on the 6d. When I checked the Canon site it show the latest update but state that previous ones are done first. Question was if previous ones are included. My dear friend CHG replied that they are with the last update. There was also the unclear bit +1

I can't speak to the 6D, but I have 4 other Canon bodies and the firmware is cumulative. It doesn't add to what is already in your camera, it replaces it. There should be no need to install the previous updates first. They are included in the latest update.

Everyone has really covered this, but my comment follows.

I just installed 1.1.8 on my 6D. When I downloaded and opened the file, up popped a very simple, printable set of step-by-step instructions to follow. I installed directly over 1.1.6. Used a fully charged battery.

Hi Everyone , thank you for your comments and advise on firmware update. I successfully update my firmware on the Canon 7dmkii. On the 6d issue I drop it at Canon as recommended by them. My camera was courrier back to me after 4 days free of charge. Thank you Canon for the prompt and courteous service. I am still a faithful fan
