I was looking for something in a drawer full of assorted stuff, including a lot of keys. I removed all the keys and went through them. There were 122 keys ion that drawer, and most of them were for cars and locks that I no longer had. I'll have to go through them carefully and make sure I don't throw away any that I actually need. Of course, since they had been hiding in that drawer for years, I don't really need them. Many of these dated from a time when a duplicate key cost $0.25. Now, a replacement for my Honda key costs $350. I won't be accumulating a lot of them.
I still have to look through other drawers and key cabinets for keys and get rid of ones I no longer need. I have to consider if taking the time to sort through maybe 200 keys is worth my time. Maybe I should just dump them all into a bucket in case I need a key some day.

Funny, went through a drawer yesterday. Found things I had forgotten about! Also, came across
keys...not that many, maybe 30, and I know some our to cars of long ago, houses etc.
Amazing how they accumulate! Have fun!
I just remembered that there is a use for old keys. This is one of the Catskill Cats - cat statues that are decorated every year.
Now that sure took some time!
Would you believe there is an ad for a number to call if you are locked out of your car between the posts? - Dave

Probably partly explains why used cars only have one key. Thus making the new owner have to cough up for spares. And usually somewhat annoying them.
Next time you sell a car how about giving all the keys to the new owner ?
Jerry, you had better start on the cartons of owners manuals I am sure you have stashed away.
Years ago, when going on a vacation, I hid my wife's car keys so we wouldn't worry about it, and never found them again. We even moved after that, nothing, nada, zip. Rule 1, never hide your keys to anything.
I keep all old keys since many cars come and go. I sometimes find a saved key fits a new purchase.

RE: KEYS
Better keep 'em. Man who lose key get no new key. Confucius
I think almost everyones gone through this once or more--I certainly have. For me this is how I've worked it out. Any obvious car keys that don't go with one of my three vehicles go. Any obvious padlock keys need to be matched to any padlocks you can find--label and keep the ones you have with the lock. Furniture keys need to be checked against furniture you have then label. Dump the rest.
Of course, I never manage to follow my own advice so I have to do this every now and then... Good lick.
String them together for the Christmas Tree or other display.

Or you could just come up with a few "Art Photographs". Most people have that drawer, and would be interested.
