I've heard many say to stay away from any Canon 75-xxx lens. Also, pretty sure you must be a Costco member to buy from them.
Membership not required unless it is a members only price, and this isn't. You could have confirmed that yourself before giving false information.
Look at Sony A6000, you can't beat the value and it's great image quality and features. Read the reviews and the price with lens is very reasonable. This camera is NOT a compromise at this price point.

What you are saying may be true, but I don't think it would convince Nikon or Canon to honor a grey market camera for warranty purposes. Besides, if costco were to take a camera back all they would do is to see if they can get it to work, then repackage it and sell it to the next buyer. My Daughter will not listen to me about computers even though I have built mine and my Sons computers for over 20 years now. She wanted a new laptop (She breaks them about every year, or a dog running thru the house will get tangled in a power cord and launch the laptop across the room). She doesn't care because she gets whatever she wants from her husband. Anyway, she went to Best Buy to get a laptop. You know the place that has the Tech Wonders known as the Geek Squad. A salesman talked her into a refurbished MSI laptop that had just been put back on the shelf from being completely checked over and passed all tests. She stopped by to show it to me and when she pulled it out of the box I looked at it and noticed that it did not match the box that it was in. I asked her what she paid for it and she said $640.00. I said well, I guess you lucked out this time, because this is not the computer that is supposed to be in this box. I looked it up on Best Buys web site and say that it was listed for $1600.00. She was thrilled until she got home with it and hooked it up. Many, many problems. She got ahold of MSI Tech Support and they remotely got into her laptop to try to figure out what was wrong. They finally told her that it had a bad motherboard and to return it to Best Buy for a refund or exchange. So much for a great deal! Most people at places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Cost-Co know very little about the electronic items they are telling you are the greatest. They are just there to pay the bills at home.

You are spouting false information. There is nothing grey market about anything sold at Costco. It is one of the biggest retailers in the US and totally above board.

I far as remember if you don’t have a card you don’t get in!

I guess it is a little confusing, you don't have to be a member to shop on costco.com unless the item is a listed as a special for members only then you can't see the price unless you are a member , but yes to shop in the store you do need membership.
Refurb Nikon D5600 is $550 at Adorama with two kit lenses, both excellent performers. She said used was okay. Besides, why buy the Canon and settle for less dynamic range, lower-rated low light ISO, shorter battery life, fewer AF points, etc. etc.

Hi!
Glad I found you!
I'm new to this forum, and to photography. I need a good start up camera and lens. Then I'll need to learn how to navigate, learn the terminology of all things cameras/lenses.
I love shooting;
*action (grandkids on the move or a
party)
*landscape-night skies, sunsets,
close-ups of flowers,
wildlife
*People-low and high light, moving
and still
My budget? Approx $500 including lens willing to buy used so I'd need a reputable place or site to look.
Right now I use my Google Pixel camera and can get pretty good shots but I don't think it would look too impressive if I arrived to take photos for a friend with my camera!
Thanks and look forward to your advice!

Welcome to the Forum. For $500 I would buy a used Nikon D3400 ($200) and a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 constant aperture ($300 new). I have both and am very satisfied with sharpness, IQ and low light ability. Happy shooting!!

Image quality from a Nikon D700 will blow your nuts off.
Play your cards rights you could get this plus a new fast razor sharp 50mm D lens for less than $500.

If you are going to spend between $550-$600 for a camera such as the Canon SL2 at Costco, you may want to go on either B&H or Adorama websites and look at refurbished Nikon 5300 to 5500 kits. They are exceptional cameras for someone just starting out.
Try the Canon G7 X MK II (MK III Price is not justified) for a fantastic small, travel, do everything camera. Won’t be disappointed. Later, you may decide on a full frame DSLR or Mirrorless. This Canon is intuitive and has great image quality and a great low light lens. Good Luck!

Non Costco members pay 5% more, but logging in to costco.com is just like logging in to ugly hedgehog. You sign up for a free password. If you happen to have a Costco membership you also get those items that are members only. We should get back on to the original topic though, so I'm done talking about it. What camera do you recommend?

The OP is asking for cameras under $500, that's why I recommended the Canon SL2 kit. Not perfect but a good start for the price. Comes with 3 kit lenses, SD card, battery, camera bag that would add to the cost.
