Just use the LR export of the RAW files, set to output JPEGs at this screen-filling pixel resolution.

Why not at full size? And why at full resolution (which you hint at when you suggest a quality as low as 80%? I think you're right - 80%90% will give substantially smaller file sizes with no impact on what you see, but by limiting the file size to only 2048 x 1365, taking down a 36mp image to 3.8mp is a bit extreme, don't you agree?

I was thinking of the "archive" aspect of the request, where of course, full-size would be the same thing in the conversion from RAW. I may have filled in my own words / misunderstanding in reading the request for help ... The magic of LR is the export is a software function. If you don't like the result, just tweek a parameter or two and do it again with no risk to the original image files.

With all due respect, you do not seem to be experienced editing RAW data. RAW data requires of an editing software made to interpret that RAW data. Images tend to be flat, in many cases colors are not real like those of sunsets and sunrises and although practically all editors are capable of adding a certain amount of contrast and sharpness the data needs more editing to bring back all the goodness present in the scene or subject photographed.
Converting from RAW to JPEG without editing is not advisable IF first a good editing of the RAW data has been done.

You have LR but don’t want to do any post processing? Open them in LR and save them as JPEG's without making any edit changes.

Background. Shooting Nikon D810. Post processing with LR
I just shot about 120 pictures of a rental unit before renters move in. I shot in RAW and should have shot in jpeg. I’m going to put the pictures on a thumb drive for record keeping. What is the easiest way to now convert to JPEG for record keeping? I don’t want to do any post processing.

First,
Edit one of them.
Then copy the settings to the remainder. Unprocessed RAW files can look pretty awful.
Select all the prints you want to convert.
Open File->Export
Set the settings as you wish including a new target folder.
Select sRGB and a size limitation if you don't need the full file.
Tell it to go and you'll have your jpegs.

For sometime now I have been using the software called IJFR. This stands for "Instant JPEG From Raw". After it converts your photos it can put the JPEG in a new folder or just adjacent to the original RAW file or export the converted JPEGS.

You can do a search and try it out.

Good Luck!

There is a free program that is called "Instant JPEG from Raw". To convert any number of RAW files you just do a Right Click, select the first raw file, the hold down the shift key, select the last file, then OK. About 10 seconds later they are all converted. And the cool thing about this is that you can put the JPEGs next to the raw file.

I've used this program several times and I love it.

I'm agreeing with this. Point being you (OP) will have to do some processing. Should be easy enough to run all your accidentally RAW files as a batch thru Lr (like the Ps ACR I use) with a preset. Yes, you will have to manually process one image and know what you are doing to create a preset. Once your full batch of RAW is processed they can be batched exported as JPEGs for archiving. I could figure this out and I don't even use Lr, I use Ps alone w/ ACR and Bridge.

Personally, I would not convert at all since the storage settings advantage are not enough to outweight the compression artifacts of JPG.

Robert. Could you expand on your comment? The storage size was the main reason I wanted to change to JPEG.

Slightly off topic, here. Irfanview is for PC. Is there something like Irfanview for Mac? I know there are some sites that "converted" Irfanview for use on a Mac, but I'd rather have something that is built specifically for a Mac.
