I heard they came out with a new Godox Pro Mark II transmitter… I read pro / con reviews on Amazon (I believe). In short: the pro: better interface, con: less reliabilty - it doesn't fire (the) flash(es) 20-30% of the time - n big consideration since that is why I bought into Godox - for their built in remote system; but if
its not going to work reliably…

Has anyone worked w/the new transmitter?

Please share,

TIA, Eli

Eli,

I have had ZERO problems with my Nikon version of the Mark II. Fires every time without fail. I can tell you the Godox interface for their flashes and transmitters aren't very intuitive. I have (2) V860II-N Speedlights, and an AD400Pro. The speedlights are used on & off camera I sometimes struggle if I haven't used it for a while, and the manuals are less than stellar. But reliability and consistency are 100% (Unless I set something wrong) lol

a Follow up to my previous post:

Eli, One thing I found is my copy of the Godox Mark II doesn't seem to like Enloop rechargables. I've since changed to Kirkland brand regular alkaline batteries. I Think the transmitter might be a little sensitive to the lower voltage of the enloops. The transmitter functioned okay with the enloops, but it showed a "low battery" icon almost all the time. That concerned me, so I just switched to akalines and they seem to last a long time. Maybe some of the less than wonderful reviews you saw had something to do with low battery voltage ?

I've recently purchased the Godox transmitter and it works fine. I was initially worried when I used rechargeable batteries and saw that the battery meter was only showing 1 bar but on reading the instructions I discovered that it requires the higher voltage of alkaline batteries - once these were installed the battery meter was reading full.

Godox systems are great for unchallenging environments but they prove to show their seems in tough circumstances. If you're shooting a high paying once in a lifetime event invest in the Prophoto stuff, if you're a hobbeist taking pictures for fun Godox works great 90% of the time for less than 1/3rd the money.

My manual says Alkaline batteries only, others might cause misfires. Mine works everytime with Alkaline.

Gary, thanks for the input, & btw, fwiw, I've heard that in general, even other brands, remote flash transmitters & receivers "like" alkalines rather than rechargeable batteries...

I have a TT685 flash and X1T-0 transmitter still available from BH Photo. I use rechargeable batteries. If there are no reflectable surfaces point red towards camera.

You'd be better off renting if it's a once in a lifetime. It's unrealistic to buy a single light for $2,000 dollars without a modifier. Plenty of pros are shooting with systems 1/4 of the price.

I'm running a Flashpoint R2 Pro MarkII 2.4GHz Transmitter with a Flashpoint XPLOR 600PRO TTL without issue using Eneloops. For those who don't know the Flashpoint is a rebranded Godox for Adorama. I'd recommend the Adorama because of in house warranty work.

Eli,

Prior to losing all my gear in the California Wildfires, I had Pocket Wizard triggers. They were great and also 100% reliable. They worked fine on Enloop Ni-Mh batteries. I suspect the Godox transmitter might work okay on them as well, but I mentally can't get past the constant low battery indicator.

Incidentally, I'm actually using the Godox X-Pro-n which is the same as the Flashpoint R2 Pro. I Really believe if users are having reliability issues, it's more user error than anything.

My personal opinion is that you only really know gear that you use often so renting doesn't work that well for me. I have to own it, shoot with it a dozen times to learn it's character.

To each their own.
