I am using an Olympus OMD EM1 MK II. Last Saturday, I had a chance to shot some milky way images at Sunrise at Mt Rainier National Park (East side of the Mountain.) I used my Oly 7-14 and shot mostly at the 7 mm setting. I think the attached image was shot just before midnight.
I have an Oly E-m1 mkII and use a Venus Laowa 7.5mm f2.0 which I purchased exclusively for Milky Way shooting. The results have been excellent. I usually shoot at f2.0 ISO 2000 and 20 second shutter speed.
Amazon and B&H carries these.
Yes, you use the 35mm equivalent in your shutter speed calculation. It's more like a starting point, than a rule, it depends on your location, we're moving the fastest at the equator so would need faster shutter speeds there.
Use the widest, fastest you have and expose as long as you can at the highest acceptable iso, probably around 1600. And go from there. With what you have, you will probably want to do stitch panoramas.
The sigma 14mm f1.8 is one of the favorites for astro.
Here's a stitch pano using a 35mm f1.8 on D7200.
