Last October on my way out to my Arizona & Utah vacation I stopped at Great Sand Dunes for a day. What an incredible park for photographers. I grabbed a campsite with a front row view of the dunes, made lunch then headed out hiking. The dunes are over 700 ft tall with an elevation over 8,000 ft so it's quite the workout. After exploring for a couple hours I plopped down on the side of a dune and took a nap waiting for the light & shadows to get good. One tip I have for everyone, don't change your lenses. The wind had sand blown into every pocket I had. I took my pants off in the tent and there was sand everywhere. That would not be good on a camera sensor. Another tip, just go barefoot. Sand will fill your shoes and socks anyways so just act like your on the beach. In one afternoon I took hundreds of pictures. Everywhere I looked was and amazing scene. I've never been to an area that offered expansive landscapes mixed with up close abstract shots. Anyways, here are some of my favorite photo's.

Really well done! I’m jealous. When we were there, it was windy and rainy.

Thanks Dave. I covered a lot of ground in one afternoon. I wanted to do some serious hiking on my vacation so I made sure I was in good shape before hand. Plus it's hard to take good pictures if your struggling to breath.
