Momma Possum

We thought we had a pregnant possum. Then we found out possums have a pouch. Supposedly, the only animal in N America that does. I don't know if that is true or not.

In these images, you can see a tail and little paw sticking out.

We were hoping to see momma with babies on her back.
Never did. Did see little scratch marks on her back. No babies.

Good catch... you can see the little ones in the pouch and you can tell from the back shot that she is carrying little ones.

You do NOT want these things near your residents. Especially with little ones. Have you see the damage a raccoon can do to your house? These are worse. If they get into your house they chew up everything. And they stink, they smell like ... I don't know what but it's a terrible smell. They urinate on things to claim as their property or turf and they have a lot of turf to claim. That's what smells so terrible. You see that long point snout, it's full of very sharp teeth and they are vicious. The only good thing about them is that they are stupid. They are easily trapped. If the trap fails, that's OK, fix it and just set it again. You'll catch him the next time. Cat food is a good bait or cut up fruit, especially oranges. But take it from me, you do not want these things around your house. You'll never get rid of them.

Yes, the opossum is the only indigenous North American marsupial. Good shots.

They have been around for several years. We have not had a problem, yet.
I do have a small live animal trap.
I may have to activate the "Round Rock Possum Relocation Program" Locally known as the "RRPRP". Non profit of course.....

Maybe, I could ship them up to MT and he could use them as wolf bait in Lamar Valley.

HO HO smk (slapping my knee) He would love that. Let me in on doing that. I'll pay for postage. LOL
We don't have an organized program like you; that's a great idea.

I thought, being at Round Rock you would know all about these little critters. I live year around in a winter Texan park and I was out one night watching a meteor shower, several years ago. I saw one of this things that was really big. I killed it and it measured 53" nose to tail. A big black male. They wouldn't even let me make Granny Clampett's favorite possum stew. I haven't seen one even near that size since.

We were raised in the country in Mo. We had lots of possums. I now live in Tx. and there was one on my back porch and I threw moth balls all over the porch and she finally left. Of course I got rid of a copperhead back there also. I keep moth balls on hand all the time so I can keep snakes away. It works.
