Check the instructions for the brand of memory card you purchased, there may be a link to software. If not, recovery is normally done on a fee basis. Google “memory card photo recovery apps” and read the results carefully to find the best provider. Good luck.

Yes. There has been a lot of success recovering SD cards with a program called Recuva. Just Google it. Make sure not to use or format the card in the meantime.

Yes, there are many, just Google it, although "free" often means limited number of files or Mb allowed. Recuva software has been mentioned often here on UHH.

If you deleted them when you read the card on your computer, the recycle bin will have the photo's if you have not "cleaned" out that bin. Else, it can be expensive to recover photo's. Try and internet search for "free" deleted file recovery software.

I did delete them when I read the card on my computer but they were not in my deleted file. When I deleted them the computer asked me if I wanted to permanently delete them and I said yes. Not to worry though. As I said above, Recuva did a beautiful job of finding them on the memory card and I recovered them and stored them on my computer. Great program!!!

I've used and been very happy with Recurva.
SanDisk SD cards come with a paper insert for a free 2 year subscription to Rescue Pro Deluxe. You can save the inserts and activate sequentially when one subscription expires. Just make sure you download the correct version; one version is for SD cards, the other for SSD cards. Wouldn't separately pay for it, just another tool to have as you've already paid for it.
So far, Recurva has been sufficient for my needs.
SanDisk SD cards come with a paper insert for a free 2 year subscription to Rescue Pro Deluxe. You can save the inserts and activate sequentially when one subscription expires. Just make sure you download the correct version; one version is for SD cards, the other for SSD cards. Wouldn't separately pay for it, just another tool to have as you've already paid for it.

My preferred method is:
Memory cards are very inexpensive. Stick to 32 MB or less - retire them at about 2/3 full. After downloading to computer, I copy to a backup drives for photos. I do not "reformat" and reuse. I use small envelops and mark what files the card contains and keep them in a safe place. If you have several camera's (and or cards) carefully mark the cards with camera data and date and file. Buy new cards from Walmart, Target, Sam's, Costco Staples etc. High speed cards @32MB are sometimes on sale for less than $10.00. So far going back to the earliest 2 or 3 Mb cameras I have not lost a photo in either raw and jpeg.
Some times you can get a free recovery program on line. Kim Commando used to have a no cost recovery program - haven't checked lately.

You are right. I forgot that deleted files reside in that deleted directory for the device.
