Goldenrod Soldier Beetle

This is a Goldenrod Soldier Beetle from my preserved specimens that I use for staging macro/micro focus stacking sessions. It is yet another in the recent series of placing the subject into an illuminated ping-pong ball with black velvet in the back to create the black background.

Thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions and critique.

Very good. I have never really looked at the heads of these things, and this shows that it is rather interesting. These are flower feeding beetles (I guess they really go after the pollen). You see the elongate face for probing flowers, and the mandibles seem especially modified for their specialized diet. Very cool!

Mark, I'm glad that you can use these photos to examine the traits and physical features of the specimens. I have no knowledge of entomology whatsoever and to me they are just exciting to find and photograph in magnified views and I truly enjoy sharing my work and viewing that of others.
