I would love to buy the latest Macbook pro, but can't afford it. I happened upon a late 2013 Macbook pro 13" with retina display. It has a 2.8ghz i7 processor, 16gb memory, and 1tb ssd. I shoot with a Nikon D850, use Lightroom 6, Affinity Photo and am playing with Luminar3 for editing. Is this MBP to antiquated to be of use? Anyone still using a similar MBP let me know your experience. I would be moving from a Windows 10 machine. I think I can pick up this machine for $510. I just bought my wife a Macbook Air 13" from 2015 with a 1.7ghz i7 8gb,128ssd for 275$ from the same pawn shop. She loves it so far,but doesn't do much processing outside of apples photos app.

I checked with Microsoft. One would need their "Dock" to connect an external monitor.

One issue with buying a new Mac now is that Apple will be switching over to it's own processor soon. So stuff that runs on a Mac with Intel CPU like i7 will have a limited upgrade life... probably just a few years.
My newest computer is a fully loaded 2012 MacBook Pro with an additional larger screen. Use Adobe Bridge CS5 to edit and manage my large collection photos and am content with it. Wife has newer iMAC and MacBook Pro and iPhone and Apple watch which she is skilled with and uses constantly. Amazing what she can do with them, but she is not serious about photography other than Facebook.

Those sound like good prices, assuming the computers are in good condition. I'm still using a MBP from 2012 with similar specs, but I don't use it for processing.

And now, here comes the BS! What is your source for this?
Apple. Public information.

Not even close! And taken COMPLETELY out of context. No way will apple abandon folks with 3 year old machines. Never happened, never will. Apple has already gone through one cycle of this when the changed from Motorola chips to Intel chips. Whatever they do, it will be backwards compatible as necessary or they will alienate a large customer base, which they never would do. Do some research and come back when you have real information. This is not a consideration at all, perhaps except for you. Best of luck.

I have that MacBook Pro, but with 256GB SSD. You should be fine. Looks like a bargain! If you run into storage space issues, move your photos to an external plug-in hard drive (very inexpensive) and keep your catalog and applications on the internal SSD.
Read tech literature on the transition utilities for software developers. The easy ones (iPhone to mac, ipad to mac) are just coming now. Last I heard, most software is made by software companies, not computer companies, btw.
Btw, insulting, arrogant, and technically illiterate, you are.
It's not too old until you can't upgrade to a new operating system to run updated software that you decide you must have.
I have a 2016 MPRo (15") that is the core of all my photo work (LR and PS): The chip is a dual-core i5, 16 RAM, 512 SSD, mirrors to a 27" monitor, hooks up to two printers (a mono laser and a photo printer), and linked to a 3TB external, and a DVD burner - all with Thunderbolt ports, and it never slows down noticeably. Absolutely love it. (And I bought it refurbished from Apple.)
I have no experience with buying a computer from a pawn shop, though.

Thanks for the reply. I do use an iPhone, iwatch, and iPad. The few times I've used my wife's Macbook, I keep wanting to do a right mouse click, that doesn't seem to be part of osx, so it would take some getting used too.
You can set up right mouse click function with ease.
I would Like to know how you are running Mohave on a mid 2009 MBP. My mid 2009 model was retired by Apple at 10.11 El Capitan. That’s what their website says too. Please enlighten me. Thanks!!

I use a mid 2009 17" MacBook Pro with OSX Mojave, 8gb ram and 512gb ssd running Photoshop CC 2019 and Lightroom Classic. The major slow down in Lightroom is loading previews in the develop module. Photoshop runs with no major problems and very few beachballs. I know it is not as fast as a newer mac but it is 10 years old and paid for. Being retired I have lots lots time, so speed is not a concern.
