Hi all - newbie here - just joined a few minutes ago.
I was in Moab in June last year, spent a cpl months camping on blm land outside of town. Beautiful area! Amazing sunrises and sunsets! Definitely a tourist town.
Sorry I cant really give any advice as far as touring the place - I can say this tho, the people were all very friendly in town, and its easy to find clean, free drinking water 👍
That time of year it can get hot! Be prepared. Photo ops everywhere you look - have fun ☺
Ill probably be going back this year.

Agree that you should spend as much time in Arches as time permits, but also try to take a couple of hours (well, maybe a little more) or so to do the La Sal Loop Road. Take U.S 191 north of Moab to Utah 128, just south of the Colorado River. Take that road 15.5 miles - a nice drive in and of itself - to La Sal Loop Road. I suggest you map it out from there on Google Maps. You'll end up in Spanish Valley and you can take any number of roads back to U.S. 191 from there, then north back to Moab. It's a really great drive with great scenery. There was snow in the mountains when we were there but it was easily navigated. Also, do Canyonlands Island in the Sky and Needles, if possible, and definitely Dead Horse Point. They are very reminiscent of the Grand Canyon, in my opinion, but unique and just gorgeous. Try to get to Mesa Arch in Island in the Sky at sunrise - not easy, but the walk to it it pretty easy and sunrise there is pretty amazing. Of course, if you have time to get to Monument Valley, that is pretty spectacular, as is Goblin Valley State Park, which is a bit of a haul from Moab/Monument Valley. It's a spectacular part of the country. Enjoy!

Hi Photo Bugs,
I am beyond excited to be taking my first trip to Moab the first week of June. I want to hook up with a local photographer for obvious reasons. Don't want to waste time or get lost in the maze. I have reached out to one who posted on Moab website but have not heard back yet. I am a hiker and am traveling with husband.
Any info or advice you can share?

Just purchased a Moab Jeep Wrangler and plan on visiting Moab this spring.

Not sure how long you will be around Moab but Dead Horse Point is wonderful. You can hike the rim( you need lots of water) fairly easy hike. Sunrise/sunset beautiful pictures at the point. If you are a little braver, you can head out of town toward Monticello. A nice little paved road will take you to newspaper rock. Keep going and you will find a nice primitive campground. We hung out there for a week. If you drive down the hill, you can get to Confluence Overlook and Elephant Trail Loop. 14 mile hike to the confluence. You need a ton of water but it is worth it. If you get onto Google Earth, you can check it all out. The Moab area is my favorite place ever.

Moab is one of my favorite places. I agree with the suggestion to skip the lower part of Canyonlands. Instead go to Fisher Tower -- especially if you are a climber. The tower can be seen in a number of commercials. You will want a long lens. Getting there can be fun.

For restaurants, try the Blue Pig (BBQ) on the southern end of town and the Sunset Grill on the hill north of Moab. Very interesting history of the use of radium in the early 1900's. Potash Road has a "Thelma and Louise" point, where they drive their car off the cliff at the end of the movie. Be careful of 4-wheel drive roads, as many of them are very sandy and if there's any rain (probably not likely), they become very slick. We also loved the Kane Creek Road (paved to a point) drive...beautiful scenery (along the river) and some cool petroglyphs (look for Birthing Rock). Be sure to stop at the Visitor/Information Center in town...very good maps and helpful advice from locals. Also, go to the TomTill Photo Gallery in town. He has some awesome shots that may serve as inspiration for you. When you go to the Nat'l Parks, go as early or late as is practical, due to heat waves and fewer people in your photos (by June, families will be there on summer vacation and kids are running and climbing everywhere!) Also, when you go to Fischer Towers (north on Rt. 128), you can also drive the Onion Creek road just south of the towers. My husband and I run a Jeep Club...will be there the end of April with the group (before it gets too hot). Have a great trip. You WILL be back - too much to see in just one trip!

I was there about four years ago and used a company called "Moab Photo Tours, LLC, Jon Fuller was the photographer/owner, phone number 435-259-4700. I don't know if he's still in business or not but it would be worth a phone call. I learned several things from him that I use today and got some very good photos thanks to him.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about a mountainous area of Jordan, not USA related.
