There is no such thing as a mark 1. There's the 6D and the 6D mk II. It's like the Pope in Rome. He Pope Francis not Pope Francis I or Pope Francis the first. The next Pope to choose the name Francis will be Pope Francis II.

I've had the Canon EOS 6D since it was introduced in 2012. It was my first full frame DSLR. I've always been quite fond of the 6D, especially its low light capabilities. I've taken tens of thousands of photos with my 6D and it has never given me any problems at all. I don't use it as much since I got a 5D mk IV, but I still use it and it's still as reliable as when I bought it.

Chill, the use of mark 1 just tells people you are talking about the original. There are a lot of cameras and lenses that never had mark I or mark 1 on them that people now use the term for. The old model 100-400L didn't say mark I but many now use that term. Same with the Tamron 150-600, it didn't say G1 but now that there is a version labeled G2 most people add the G1 to confirm which version they are talking about.

Lots of reviews says you can’t do action shots with it but I set mine to center point focus and shot a few dog shows and the images never disappointed. I really never found anything it couldn’t do but the 5Dmiv bug kept biting so I found a used one and sold my 6D. Wish I’d kept it. You can save a pile if you look used, lots were sold when the 6D2 hit.

Not knowing I couldn't do it I did a lot of bird/bird in flight photos with my 6D and either Tamron 150-600 G1 or 100-400L mk 1.
Yes I had a lower keeper rate than with my 7DII that I added to my gear selection, but I had very good shots with the 6D.

I often used the old pre-AF tricks, like find a spot the birds go to, manual pre-focus and wait. It worked with the old manual focus film cameras and it will work with digital when your AF is a bit slow (real dim light) or the back ground is cluttered and fools the AF.

Could you recommend a lens to put on this camera?

As a low budget walk around lens, I like the Tamron 28-200mm aspherical XR IF macro - less than $100 most places ...

For a little more money (than the 6D) , you could get a 5D III - if you shop hard ....just sayin'.....

I think it will serve you well. Get the best glass you can for it with the money you saved buying it and it should work out nicely for you. Good Luck.

I have used the 6D for several years - tens of thousands of pictures. The camera has performed flawlessly - never a problem.

I'm interested in this camera I'm on a budget is this camera reliable What do you guys think of this camera?

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV. The Canon 6D Mark II is a very close rival in the same line from the same manufacturer. The 6D is is slightly smaller, lighter, and slower. It doesn't have the hefty price tag. It doesn't offer the higher ISO, shutter speed range or f-stop range. It's sensor resolution is slightly less than the 5D. It's video capability is less than that of the 5D. It autofocus matrix has fewer points.
In all, the Canon 6D Mark II is still worth the investment.
It is important to consider that a manufacturer is going to put out a good camera regardless of the model number. You the photographer make the key difference in your photographs. I always quote my High School teacher. The camera does 1% of the photograph, the nut behind the viewfinder does the remaining 99%. While you would like to push the camera's abilities, you need to push your own limitations beyond that you know. Now get out there and take some remarkable photographs.

Happy Shooting!

LP-E6 is the original, the LP-E6N is the later higher capacity version of the same battery.
I have owned 5 Canon bodies and they all use that battery. I still have and use the LP-E6 that came with my 6D in Dec 2013.
