Defaced License Plates

So, I driving along in my car. I noticed several things strange. The car in front of me had their license place made difficult to read. Either the paint was removed or a plastic cover is over the place or a few pieces of duct tape are stuck on the back. When my wife and I are talking about it, we figured out why. In New York you cannot swing a dead animal without hitting a red light camera or a speeding camera on every corner. How come the police don't do something about this atrocity?

Because the Police make MONEY with these cameras! - (The Police are 'doing something' about YOU!)
(I saw an article that said you can buy Auto Tag Plate covers that 'Reflect' and prevent those Trafic Cams from being able to read your tag number, while the police can still read them from their Cruisers.)

"Because the Police make MONEY with these cameras!"
What???!!
The state or city governments make money on traffic infractions not the police departments. The fine is paid to those city or state government agencies. Not the police departments.

Atrociy? Camoflaged licence plates or red light cameras, speed cameras and automated license plate readers? The book 1984 was a warning, not a how-to manual.

Exactly. In Chicago parking enforcement and collection of fines is no longer done by the Police department but by the City Dept. Of Revenue !

The police always say it's not about the money, it's about safety. So, if that's true, why don't they donate all the fines they collect to charity? When someone says it's not about the money, they mean, it's all about the money.

Whoa....whoa. The fine is NOT collected by the police. The checks are not made out to the police. It is collected by the court system. The judicial branch. The cops only write the summons for the infraction you committed. No infractions....no summons.
I think you have some misplaced hate going on.

Fines here go to the school district in which the ticket was issued

What part of New York has all these red light camera's and "speeding camera on every corner"
How fast do you think you are able to go in city traffic?

Modern policing has been perverted by city managers and trustees into a revenue generation agency instead of a public safety agency. I worked for a small town department yet each officer was required to write two tickets per shift except truck officers where the overweight fines ran into thousands of dollars. Policing should not be a profit making operation.

As stated previously, the hypocrisy is on the part of municipalities which state that their red-light cameras and speed traps are not about the money, but about safety, whereas, in reality, it's all about the money. Ponder, if you will, these articles:

Lets hope that will be the biggest concern for the rest of your life. Drive safely. Have a nice trip. Obey all traffic laws. Bye.

I don't think so. The City sold the parking rights and right to collect fines for 30 years, and then spent the $2bn cost in just over one year. So, private enterprise now gives tickets and collects the fines.
