Definitely the Full. It's all about surfing and the foreground wave surface tells the story better.
I find the first image to be by far the most dramatic, it is the one I would use.
Each winter I do photography for the Summit County Colorado 50+ Winter Games especially the down hill event. My finding is that the participants want a complete image but very closely cropped so you can see the action but tell who they are. Not always easy at 0f, wind, and snow.

All three have merit. Why must you choose only one?
I too prefer the full image. It's a great shot.
To me tight conveys both the energy of the wave and also the intense concentration and athleticism of the surfer. Terrific shot.

I feel number 3 completely captures the dynamics of the sport. The wave is the challenge.

Of the three here, I find that I prefer the full image. It, due to being able to see more of the height of the wave the surfer is riding conveys more excitement and drama. I usually prefer a close up photograph (if you photos arent good enough you are not close enough) but this one is different.
Brent,
I agree with Eric. Using the thirds rule will give you a great pic.
Brent,
I agree with Eric, while they are all good, depending upon your preference, using the thirds rule will give you a great well balanced pic.
Brent, great photos. My heart lets me know which photos do something for me. Tight crop really hits the spot. I leave picking photos apart for others who edit for magazine covers.
Mike
I like the first and last images best.
Depends on the preference mood I would be looking to attain. Can easily make a case for #1 or #3. Tonight I will pick 1, tomorrow perhaps 3. If I wanted to hang on the wall of my study....probably go with #1.
