Since version 5, I have had no issues with it.

Be careful with Capture One. Call them and ask whether the current version license is transferable (according to their website, it is licensed by email address). Also VERY important, ask them whether they now support Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6, because their site indicates support only through 10.14.1!

CaptureOne v12.1(current) runs well on Mojave 10.14.6. You won't need to ask them that but I don't know about license issues.

Yes I can state that Parallels is a good windows emulator. Parallels gives you the option to load and run Windows software. It constantly downloads updates, requires vigilant anti-virus software just like a PC. I got the blue screen of death once! Now THAT is a good emulator. That is the penalty.

But that is no different than when using a PC.

With MacOS you can gave both worlds.

Nice comparison, old i7 nearly unsupported O/S to new Mac. Have you looked at a new i7 8-core PC with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit? Save some money from the PC vs MAC and get the Ps & Lr subscription or get 64GB RAM in a PC. A Dell Alienware Gamer used for Photo editing will blow away any Mac in performance.

I have the Dell Allienware R5 Aurora. Only 256 (pcnvi or what ever the correct name is) ss c drive, 1tb d drive, gtx1080 graphics card only 16 gb of ram ( probably add another 16 soon). Works good as is running LR6 & Affinity. I would like to try the Mac os system for a year to see what it is all about. Maybe on the next computer upgrade.

Good luck.

My tired, first generation i7 PC, along with its Windows 7 operating system is no longer cutting it; I am taking the plunge and going with a Mac and its 8th generation, 8-core processor. As far as photo editing, I am very familiar with Capture One and hopefully I will be able to transfer the license; this software is claimed to work its best under the IOS system. As an alternative I am also looking at On1 RAW which I evaluated on the PC but found it to be painfully slow; hopefully it will work better under the Mac platform. Any input and comments from members of this forum will be appreciated.

It's always nice getting new equipment - whatever it is. Be aware that not all modern Macs allow you to add memory later. Anything but a standard configuration must be ordered, rather than taken off the shelf.

You will love your new MacBook Pro! And you will not have a problem with CP1. First remember to 'Deactivate' your license on the PC. You do not 'lose' your use; just freeing up your new laptop to activate your license/use on the new laptop. (You may not need to do this if you plan to keep your PC as a backup and your license is for more than one device). Download the latest version for Mac OS and install. Don't worry about the 10.14.6. It will work fine with CP1. Lastly, I would set up a 'Support' case thru CP1 and ask them if you need a new 'License Key' for the Mac version or if your current Windows key will work. They will help you get this done seamlessly. Have fun.

I did that at first when my spouse gave me a MacBook for Christmas a few years ago. I had been using a PC since the '90's and tried Parallels. My two cents worth is that's like drinking Decaffeinated Coffee - why bother!

I switched from PCs after leaving the corporate world of 25 plus years using Windows and moved to Macbook Pro and have never regretted it once. Display is incredible and it works seamlessly with my iPhone and iPad. Yes, they are more expensive but it works so well.

Once you get use to the interface, I think you will be quite happy you switched.

Two days ago I upgraded my sluggish old computer by changing the 1 TB hard drive to a 1 TB SSD. WOW!! It’s speedy now. Operates like a new computer. It boots up quickly and apps load quickly too. Even Internet pages load fast. The computer is a very early i7 and came loaded with Windows 7. I’ve since upgraded it to Windows 8 and then Windows 10, which works great with the new SSD.

The cost of SSDs have dropped significantly this year. A 1 TB is now in the $100 range. Much cheaper than a new computer and much, much cheaper than a Mac.

FYI...You will need to make sure your file system is compatible so that you can transfer/read-write to your files with OSX. BACK UP your files before you do anything! Check with CP1 support if your catalog(s) can simply be transferred as well or they need to be reformatted. In fact, I would ask support for their step by step protocol for migrating from your Windows system to OS X.

Thank you. I am aware of memory being soldered in, thus no upgrade. I am getting the 32gb model.

Great input about CP1. Thank you.

Actually, I agree with your process: pick the SW first, and then pick the HW to run it on. Now IF Capture1 really runs better on a Mac AND you are just as comfortable or prefer the MacOS to Windows, then I would offer the following advice: get the fastest CPU you can afford. You didn’t mention which Mac you are considering, but let’s assume it’s a MacBook Pro 15” or an IMac 27” with the I-9 8 core CPU. If it’s a new MacBook Pro, it’s not clear to me that you can upgrade the memory, so I would buy all I needed (16GB minimum) up front. If it’s the IMac, I would buy it with minimum memory and add 3rd party memory from OWC as the Apple RAM is stupid expensive. Forget the Fusion drive and opt for SSD. If you intend to store all your imagery in a large external drive, the. 512GB SSD is large enough for the OS and Apps, BUT if you aren’t going to buy an external, then go for the biggest SSD you can afford. Also, I might choose the upgraded graphics.

Here’s the downside. You’ve now built a $3500 machine either way PLUS additional disk and a nice monitor if you wish to edit photos on the MacBook Pro. For that amount of money, which is 50-75% more than an equivalent performance PC, you’d better be very sure that the Mac runs Capture1 better AND you are comfortable with the Mac OS, because you pay a big price, and while the styling and and materials are first rate, the future upgradability is limited. finally, there is zero advantage in running Windows on a Mac instead of a PC UNLESS you need a dual boot machine to run either OS. Not pushing either platform - just trying to provide a balanced view.

Good to know. They need to update their website.

Note that “runs well” and “supported” are not the same. One is a function and the other is a customer help policy.
