Hello,
I am looking for a late model MacBook for my son for college. Do you have an advise on where to look for used beside Craigslist and Ebay?
Thanks

YES to OWC!
https://eshop.macsales.com/configure-my-mac/macbook-proI bought two 2012 MBPs for my twins there. That was 2016. Both are still fine.
OWC has been around over 40 years... They’re great Mac people.

Also consult the list of Macs on Apple.com that will Run Mac OS 10.15, which comes out in the Fall (Oct).
Thank you all for the great tips!
He can get educational pricing on Apple on line.
Apple refurbished, theirs cheaper and carry full guaranteed, and personally I couldn’t tell the difference
That’s were I bought ours.
Here's another refurb source.
https://www.refurb.me/en-usYou can limit your search by a number of parameters. And you can set a reminder if there's a particular configuration you want that isn't available at the moment - they'll send you an email when it comes back into stock.
If it were my kid, though, I'd start by checking out the educational discount from Apple on new products. That way you'll know what you're really saving when you look at refurbs. And you can see what you're giving up (and getting - I'm thinking extra USB ports, maybe an SD card slot) in older models.
In any event, I can't imagine buying one of these things without an Apple factory warranty, perhaps even an extended one. I don't think you can get one of those on a Craigs List purchase, and I would be suspicious of an ebay seller who claimed theirs came with one (unless it was one of the established refurb sellers just using ebay as another sales outlet.)

Just got one for my grandson. Found a (2019) refurbished/open box one at the local Best Buy for a good price. It was the 15" model and looked like new. He loves it.

I'd buy refurbished from Apple. Otherwise, you just never know. I bought a couple of refurbs with no regrets.
