The lens is good and sharp, but you have to work very close.
I would suggest the 105 micro more money but you may find used in good cond.

I have the 60/2.8 and love it. It is very sharp, as most primes are. The right focal length for you depends on what you want to shoot. I use my 105 micro just as much as I do my 60.

Have the G version of this lens. Very sharp, minimum distance about 7.2", magnification ratio of 1.0, distance scale, works great as a 60mm prime lens. The shorter the focal length the closer you need to be for macro work, which can lead to problems with setting up uniform lighting. So I would recommend a macro more like 100mm.

Great macro lens and super sharp "normal" lens as well. I use it lots.

I never sold my Nikon 60mm 2.8 D micro lens. I still have it, still use it. Very sharp. I use it on my D850 and D500. HOWEVER, D lenses will not auto focus on the new Z camera's.
You can get a very good deal on a mint one off ebay, they are for sale all the time.
Again, it is my oldest lens, I would never sell it.

Jim, I have one and is very, very sharp. I have been using it for quite some time and I'm very satisfied with it.

I have both that 60mm and the 105. I use the 60 when I want a wider angle of view than the 105 gives, and I use the 105 when I want a longer reach than the 60 gives. Both are excellent

Both are killers, but 105mm has the edge

Please explain in detail why the 105 has the edge over the 60 mm D?
