Computers are Weird - More Proof

I'm using SureThing Disk Labeler Gold V7 to print on some DVDs. Using the standard Ctrl+P, the program will print a disk. When I do Ctrl+P again to print another disk, the program will probably shut down. I have to restart the program to print another disk.

Just out of curiosity, I used the Menu: File > Print... Ctrl+P. That works fine time after time. I tried Ctrl+P, and the program shut down. So, if you think that using keyboard shortcuts is the same as using the Menu, think again. This is the only program that has given me trouble using Ctrl+P.

Well Jerry stop using the shortcut. I do not think it is a Windows issue as much as I suspect it is the program you are using. Sometimes these third party programs do not respond to shortcuts. This is not unusual for some programs not to understand certain keyboard shortcuts as much as their own built in menu functions. Don't trash the puter over this.

It's not the computer, it's the software being stupid.

Every type of interrupt requires at least some interrupt specific code to process the interrupt. For example, a "menu choice" to print requires menu handling code written by the developer. A keyboard interrupt handler specific to Ctrl-P requires different code. As a bug breaker my first look would be to look at the code for handling the Ctrl-P interrupt handler. Send your specific symptoms report to the company which sells Disk Labeler (although they probably already know about it and may have a patch).

If your OS system is 64-bit, that may explain why you experience this behavior. I found this article which seems to indicate that SureThing Disk Labeler Gold V7 is compatible with 32 - bit systems. Just a guess, Jerry. At least you have a "workaround".

I thought of searching for the problem, but using the Menu system works fine. So you discovered that it's a "bit" of a problem.

Yes. But look out, small “bit” problems may still bite you in the “but”!

Yes, the short cuts do not always work, especially with old coded software. They have a tendency to use patches when they should redesign and rewrite the programs to account for the advanced in technology. A good example of being penny wise and dollar foolish.
