I am glad to have shared the post and, like you, have enjoyed the replies and thank everyone for replying.

Personally I cannot even fathom the Left and Right political parties of today embracing in a harmonious desire to make/keep America a great country for at least the next 50 years. There is simply too much at stake on both sides to even think about that now. Of course I do agree that it would be a nice thing and best for America. But for me personally the Left is trying hard to build up its Party while the Right is doing its best to keep America as a Capitalist society where we all work for what we achieve and earn. The Left wants everything simply given to people and feel that everyone has a Right to everything. We will not get past those differences lightly.

Hopefully this post won't get to The Attic.

Thanks for your reply. There are good people on both sides who are sincere about their position. Neither side has a monopoly on yahoos who seem only addicted to fighting with the other side and not in coming to some sort of way forward that is beneficial for our country. I agree that this is the sort of topic that would be easy to end up in the attic. I might peek in at it some time just to see what it is like, but for the most part, I do not enjoy sqaubbling and bickering. I find that there are a lot times where people will make snide remarks on this blog, that they wouldn't dream of saying face to face to the person. I would like to a return to more civility. Enjoy the rest of your day and beyond and I will be looking for future postings from you.

Dennis--My heartfelt thanks to you for your kind thoughts--my generation did what was necessary to save and stabilize the world--some much of which is now regressing--let us hope that it gets straightened out for all you guys and gals on the way up-----Herb Myles

Herb as is typical with your generation and I suspect military members of any generation you are understating what your generation did in WW2. The military might of America plus the Allied countries who also played a big part literally kept the world free. But your generation also did something that I don't think my generation did. Everyone from small children to senior citizens worked hard collecting metal and other resources in the Allied countries to help the military win the war. Women worked in plants building munitions for our guns, women also took on the role of flying some of our planes to the war theaters. Of course women didn't do it all but women definitely took on a number of traditional male roles so our men could go off to fight the war. This helped the world at large defeat the Axis powers. Everyone played a part to win.

That is not happening in my generation. Sure our military men and women are off fighting and dying but the rest of America is pretty much at the Mall or on their iPhones. A shame.

Thank you and your generation again,

Dennis

I agree somewhat but would add that in each case it was our military who had the upper hand and could have handily beaten our enemy. But it was our politicians who had neither the desire or the heart to continue the war to a win. In Vietnam the Military had the enemy beaten. But our Leftist population and Left Wing politicians had had enough. They were not willing to go the distance to go for a win. I suspect that is how most wars will be fought from now on; there will be fighting until both sides just get tired and then it will be called a draw.
