Maybe they're trying to save a little money. I guess the cameras would cost a bit more with that built-in.

Some don’t use flash much, but I would certainly pay more to have it built-in. But I want a bigger system to work with. That why I went with Godox. I have some Bowens monolight and they’re getting a bit long in the tooth.

While I don't want something I don't use on my camera like video or built in flash but built in radio transmitter is something a good idea.
Good for Nikon too to encourage people to buy Nikon flashes.

I believe only the Nikon D5, D500, D850, and D7500 can work with the Nikon WR-A10 and WR-R10. I'm not sure if the new Nikon Z6 and Z7 work with that system also.
Nikon has a technical guide on their website for this system.

It plugs into the Z just like the D7500. No 10 pin connector.

When I am shooting birds from inside my garage it's nice to put a flash back in the corner outside.

For radio-controlled flash, you'll need the SB-5000 and WR-A10 and WR-R10 adapters.

Or switch to a less expensive radio system like Godox

The Wr-A10 & WR-R10's has been back ordered for months, I've needed one for my D5 since the SB5000's came out....Pocket wizards work or Radio poppers.

On cameras like the D5, D500, and D850, if you tap the Info button twice, it will display the SB-5000 screen information on the camera's LCD.

If it’s being used remotely?

That would be pretty cool.

I have been using the SB-5000 flash with the WR-10 system for quite some time and I find it excellent, flexible and easy to use (after the initial startup period). I use this mostly with my D5 and D850 bodies but I have also used it with my D500, all with excellent results. I completely agree that if they can put the receiver in the flash, Nikon could put the transmitter in the camera body and I'd just love to see that. Are you listening Nikon -- how about putting it in the to-be-released bodies????? For anyone looking for the WR system, please PM me and I MAY be able to locate one for you. Best of luck.

Here's another vote for the Godox system. I have 3 camera mount strobes and 3 studio strobes. The nice thing about using Godox equipment is that the strobe doesn't need to "see" the camera to work.

I don't have a problem with a plug-in radio transmitter for the rare times I do multiple light shoots these days. I do however, like the convience of a pop-up flash when needed. I also shoot video. 😂

Incidentally - a minor reason for my preferring RF triggering is that I had several unpleasant experiences at weddings in the past, when the pro's slave unit responded to my flash - my camera got much more light than it was expecting, and he wasn't pleased for some reason.
