I sold my brand new d 750 because it had an anti alias filter. Sharpness same as D5600 which is lighter to carry. The only real upgrade is to D8xx with its caveat of greater weight, more expensive lenses and reach limitation. Unless you are a pro. Stick with the d5600 and 18-140lens.

I just sold my D5600 but enjoyed using it, especially when traveling - wasn't too large or heavy. Came with 28-140 mm kit lens which covered 90+% of travel photos although not a very fast lens. It also allows shooting in RAW or RAW + Jpeg but NO dual slot as mentioned by another.

That would be 18-140. It’s a great lens

It's a decent midlevel consumer-grade camera. 24 Mp, dual card slots, base ISO 100, and the swing-out screen.

Does not have dual card slots, it has a fully articulated screen. You must be thinking of the 7200.

I bought a 5300 a couple of years ago ( basically the same camera as the 5600,just does not have a touch screen) and loved it. I just got The D500 and am very happy I did. I am really enjoying growing into the D500, this is a really great camera.

I think I'm missing something here. The lenses the OP has for his D50 should work with th D5600, including autofocus!? 😕

They will work on the 3000 and 5000 series as long as they have in lens motors. Most AFS lenses do. Older AF lenses without the in lens motors will auto focus on the D50 but not the D5600. The D50 was an amazing camera in 2005 and I still use mine with fine results. I have a D3400 that is great with AFS lenses and 3rd Party lenses with in lens motors. Was not a deal breaker for me since I still use my D50 and D90 with all lenses (except AFP).

I started with a D5300 and despite buying two FX bodies afterward, I still like my D5300. It's produced some excellent shots and I like the handling and weight. I especially appreciate the fully articulated screen.

Looking to upgrade from a D50 and Nikon rep recommding D5600. I do like the weight difference though I am interested in a “next level” camera. Any experience, thoughts, recommendations?

I bought a D5500 the same time my friend bought a D7200. Although I will admit the D7200 is the more capable camera, both cameras' capabilties exceed our needs and my friend likes the D5500's light weight and touch screen. Two important questions: are you a professional and what kind of photography do you do?

A lot of Hoggers will advise you to buy nothing less than a D850 or some other top-of-the line model but I say pick the model with the features you will actually use and that you've physically handled and like. Then save the money you might have spent on a body, for some good lenses. Yes, a $3,000 body will satisfy your GAS but do you really need a Porsche if all you're doing, is driving to the store for some groceries?

I upgraded from the D3300 to the D5600 and am quite happy as I like the size, weight, and articulating touch screen. I bought the body and a used 18-200 separately although the 18-140 may be a better choice. The 18-200 stays on the camera most of the time although I have a 10, 70-300, 105 macro, and 150-600 mm as well. You can remotely control the camera with your cell phone using the built-in SnapBridge app. You can also transfer pictures from your camera to your cell phone for immediate sharing and use your cell phone's location information.

I use a D5300 for real estate jobs I do because it is one of the few to have GPS capability. It is quite capable and takes exceptional pictures, Not as good as my 810 or my DF but good.

Thanks for your response. I am not a professional (though I do joke that people purchased framed photos of mine at a garage sale, and they weren’t interested in the frames!). I enjoy travel photography, and want to advance from “spray and pray” type photography. I do get decent results at times and enjoy what I do capture though want to be more in control and purposeful to better capture what I intend.

Thanks to all for the input and advice. After all, I did go with the 5600 and will invest in a good lense as suggested. I am not a professional though I have been fortunate to capture images others have asked to purchase ( for framing and personal home display/ decoration).
I will alo consentrate on learning the fundamentals, craft and art of photography to get to the point where my ulterior are more predictable as opposed to “fortunate”.
