Anyone have any suggestions for what type and source? Intended use is for selling photos with matting and plastic bag covers.

I get my bags and backer boards (4-ply white backing board) from http://www.clearbags.com. As fare as the matts I cut my own because I do not always crop to standard sizes. I crop to what fits the image. I buy my matt board and frames from hobby lobby. Every other week or so they are half price.

Where did you get your cutter? Mat prices are too high for my pics to cover . . .

I bought mine at Michaels. I have a 24 inch cutter. You can go on line and look at Logan.com. They have the best equipment I've seen yet. I enjoy cutting my own mats, but don't get to frustrated at first. It gets better after you do a few mats. Still fun.

Logan mat cutters are great, I bought one for about $80 years ago; and it's paid for itself several times over. Any good photo supply store( or go online) should carry Logan.

I've used Redimat.com for quite a while now for my fine art photography business. Their prices are good, and you can buy either pre-cut mats or blanks, depending on your needs. They offer a good variety of both mats and backing boards. There are also price breaks for buying larger quantities.

I buy some pre-cut mats from them, but more often buy blanks and cut the windows myself, as it cuts my production costs down substantially. I have been using the Logan Simplex 750 mat cutter, which is a good model for those cutting mats frequently. You can generally find good deals for new ones on eBay at very reasonable prices.

If you are going to be cutting a lot of mats for sale, it might be worth looking into Logan's more expensive cutters (Framer's Edge or Platinum). I am planning to move up to one of those models soon.

As for plastic sleeves, Clearbags.com is definitely the best source IMO.

Thanks everyone. It seems clearbags certainly has the best prices for the bags and backer boards and redimat has the precut mat sizes I need at great prices compared to some other sites I checked.

I do have a mat cutter I bought years bu never used, yet. I am a little short on time but am going to dig it out and learn how to cut my own when time isn't a constraint.

Thanks again.

I haven't ordered yet, but I was looking at wholesalematboards.com. Maybe someone here can tell us which is better, redimat.com or this one.

I have a logan 301s, goes to 32”. I think it was around $120 at hobby lobby, take 40% off with coupon not a bad price. There matt board is around $9 a sheet, you get 4- 16x20 top matts per sheet. The matt board is 30-50% off every other week or so. That brings it to $2.50 for a 16x20 custom cut matt. A little practice and you can get good basic cuts.

Agreed. Michaels if you have a cutter (yes, I also use and recommend Logan); Aaron Brothers if you need it pre-cut or customized. This is assuming, of course, that you want to shop locally. If you buy a cutter, don't forget to buy a piece of cheap mat board to use as a backing when cutting; you can cut a standard board into six inch strips and have backing for years. Also, don't skimp on a ruler. Get a good accurate 24" stainless steel matting rule.
