Captured the other day this Dragon Fly and never saw one like this before. I wrote our UHH expert Doc and he told me that it was a very young (immature) male Widow Skimmer (Libellula luctuosa). As it matures the abdomen will begin to become pruinose or white. Kind of the way a plum develops that white powdery look.(prune) Also the white patches on the wings will become more pronounced.
Taken Thursday July 11 at Chicago Botanical Gardens
Camera:Nikon D800
Lens 200MM Macro Nikkor F4
1/640 sec, f/20, ISO 4000
Hand Held
Enjoy
