I guess it all depends on your values. The rich Cuban musical traditions are celebrated around the world.

Classic cars is all they have.

Another incorrect statement. They have wonderful Ballet and dance companies, they have amazing artists, visual artists. To name a few.....

The Cuban National Ballet School (Escuela Nacional Cubana de Ballet) in Havana, with approximately 3,000 students is the biggest ballet school in the world and the most prestigious ballet school in Cuba.

Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba is a genuine expression of the mixture which identifies Cuban Culture. The company's performances combine, in an original way, elements of flamenco, ballet and contemporary dance with Spanish and Afro-Cuban rhythms.

The National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana in Havana, Cuba is a museum of Fine Arts that exhibits Cuban art collections from the colonial times up to contemporary generations.

Museums...
Museum of the Revolution
Finca La Vigia—Ernest Hemingway’s Home
Museo del Ron Havana Club
Museum of the City
Classic Car Museum
Napoleonic Museum

We often foist our values on others. Perhaps this Communist regime will eventually lessen its’ tight controls. Opening up channels of communic ation is one way that often begins to bring about change. I have no de lusions about their gov’t. I do think letting the people see and hear about what they could have brings about a cultural interchange that can lead to real progress.
After WWll my Dad said he’d never buy a German or Japanese auto mobile. Eventually, he realized that the War was over and such anger had to be let go. We have always debated how much we should do with trying to thaw the icy relations with such countries. We have opened dialogue with China and N Korea, despite their being the most cruel dictatorships in the World. We have considerable trade with China despite our other differences. Our President speaks to wanting to have economic relations with Kim J Un and Korea. While I do not support those thoughts, I mention it because sooner or later things like this happen. I remember how my High School QB was not very “nice” to me back then, but many years later we forged a strong friendship. As humans we need to be open to trying to get past differences and work towards accord. I know many say never to this, but sooner or later it will hap pen and we all might as well get used to not having everything ex actly as we want it. You need to try something. This does not mean capitulating to horrible leaders as we appear to be doing with N Korea. It means trying baby steps first and if things work out expanding later. You still urge for those countries to better treatment of their citizens, but work “toward” better relations. Stubbornness will get neither side anywhere. I know not what the perfect answer or right answer is. I do not believe any one does. I am just trying to be open to a different tactic than the ones that have been unsuccessful since the takeover by Fidel Castro. Remember, the guy he replaced was a horror, too, but Americans had no trouble visiting the country or vacationing there. Is the difference that one was a brutal dictator and the other a Communist brutal dictator? What we do with a neighbor is important to the future of us all.

I am co-leading a photo tour of Cuba in January 2020.
We will stay in private homes and travel in the classic cars.
The travel agent has been doing this for 12 years and her license is not affected
but the travel limits to Cuba.

We will go to Vinales, Havana and Trinidad (Cuba)
I am not sure if I can post the itinerary here.

PM me if interested.

Well unfortunately your offer sounds very enlightening. We have traveled to China and stood
in the square with Mao's picture. We learned much on this trip. We are not communists or socialists
a word used like it is a curse. A lot of people in the country have become twisted with all this propaganda's coming at them everyday. That is the sad story. The don't read enough to know the pro's and con's of the world. The have so much hate built into their brains that the joy and wonder of places and people of
all types and politics is not open to their mind.
Congratulations to you. And have a wonderful trip. I was just go for the music and the food. Stay safe.

But whatever they have, it's none of your business. They are in no way threattening us.

The best thing would be opening up Cuba to trade and visitors. There are two countries that remain fundamentally communst: N. Korea and Cuba. Look at SE Asia. They have improved their lives considerably. Even China is better off now.

Are you on drugs? Who said Cuba is threatening us? Maybe you should read the thread again to get a clue.

I am unable to pull up the itinerary, but if the tour guide and I can communicate, I remain interested in such a trip.

No you're on drugs. What I meant was that if Cuba WERE threatening us as is N. Korea, we would have a reason to get lightly involved in their business. They are, on the other hand, living their lives independently from us, and although normalized relations with the us might please many, it's not a big deal to them. So we should let them have what they want. If they have a problem with Communism, they can change it, but beware, they might want to return to that like many Russians do.

You are on drugs. If you live in a communist country under a communist dictator, the little guy has no chance of changing anything.

If you take a blind person, not having sight is not the end of the world because the have NEVER EXPERIENCED SIGHT. Give them the opportunity to see, and then they know how lacking their life has been. You can't miss what you have never experienced. People are not meant to be living under communism.

What is truly disgusting is people like you that see nothing wrong with it, or people who go there to photograph and take little trinkets to the poor people so they can feel like they really did something. And then they expound on how happy the people are. Talk about living in a bubble, that ignorance defines it.
