So what? The people live under a brutal dictator and communist regime. Their people are not getting educated in universities, they barely have food.

And that makes communism acceptable? Anywhere?

It is not your choice nor is it my choice what people in other countries live under. It is their choice. Are you aware that there are a large, almost to the majority level, of the Russian people that wish for the return of Communism?

Iff they want it and get it, it's their business, not mine.

I am simply speaking the truth that you do not want to admit. It must give you a sense of importance to hand them trinkets and act like you are the benevolent one. Their country is run by a brutal dictator that starves and abuses many of the people, has murdered many, they have no rights and no freedoms, they cannot disagree with their communist leader or they will die. You know that is true. Yet you participate in this. It is the wrong thing to do.

Many would like to go, but not at the expense of the people living there. And it is at the expense of the people living there. You do nothing to make their situation better in any meaningful way. Trinkets doesn't cut it.

You will continue to participate in this because you WANT to. It should be about the Cuban people and it isn't.

You are an ignorant person with NO knowledge of what is happening in Cuba. No one asked you to go to Cuba or to make negative, incorrect comments about the people there. You are not telling the truth, you know nothing about it, so just go back to your negativity ways, and stop the BS. You are insulting, mean and just wrong.

I am certainly not going to change your mind and you will never change my mind about the people of Cuba. I have lived with them, have been friends with them when I was there and still on facebook, communicating on a regular basis with them.

The country is no longer run by the brutal dictators of the past. The Castro brothers are no longer in power there. You are so ignorant you don't even know what is currently going on there. Do you know anything about the current President? I doubt it!!!

FYI for those who want to know more about the President and what is going on there.

***Mr. Díaz-Canel has been a quiet but effective leader, since 2013, seemingly open to change. Many called him a good listener, while others described him as approachable, free of the rigidness and inaccessibility of typical party chiefs.

Stories of his Everyman qualities have spread widely in recent years: how he rode his bike to work instead of taking a government vehicle during gas shortages; how he defended the rights of a gay club in Santa Clara in the face of protests; how he patiently listened to academics grouse (sometimes about him) as minister of higher education.

More recently, he was a leading voice in the push for internet access in Cuba, arguing that the nation could not seal itself off from the outside world. Though his beliefs remain very much within the party line, those who know him say he does not adhere to the belief that Cuba can exempt itself from the modernization necessary to participate in the global economy.***

You know nothing about Cuba, best to keep your wrong comments to yourself. I for one, just don't want to hear it or care one bit about your ignorant attitude.

Really? So you want us to believe that the people of Cuba have a choice between democracy and communism? They have a choice in who their leader is? They must settle that when they have imaginary elections.

Well, you have had your rant and it doesn't make what you are doing right. You take a group of people to photograph oppressed people. In the process your trip is free because you booked others to go on the trip, and yes, I know that is common practice. You throw a few trinkets at the Cubans and call it good. You have done your bit to make their life better. According to you, living under communist rule is just wonderful and another day filled with sunshine. Taking rich people to gawk and photograph poor people is nothing to crow about.

Scientific American evaluates those reports of sonic attacks on embassy employees. It turns out that there is no evidence that they ever occurred and MRI's of brains show no effect.

There are pickpockets, prostitutes and purse snatchers in NYC, but the city is safer than its ever been. The advisories you linked to amount to a big nothing burger.

But whatever they have, it's none of your business. They are in no way threattening us.

The best thing would be opening up Cuba to trade and visitors. There are two countries that remain fundamentally communst: N. Korea and Cuba. Look at SE Asia. They have improved their lives considerably. Even China is better off now.

I guess it all depends on your values. The rich Cuban musical traditions are celebrated around the world.
