I stayed in the Blue Mountain Motel in Dayton. It was very clean and reasonably priced. It is a no frills motel but I'm only there to sleep. Driving the roads around Dayton will bring you many photo opportunities including the ones mentioned. If you like architecture they have a great old courthouse and an old school house.

Thanks for that. My wife's research pointed her to Dayton.

Restaurants were busy with about 1/2 being farmers listening to futures prices their commodities on the radio and the other 1/2 were photographers.

Good stuff to know!

We were there the first week in June. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Pullman. You will love the Palouse. Steptoe Butte is a must. Hope there are no forest fires around.

Thanks for the information, no fires, please.

Take a look at search results for "Tim Grey Palouse". He is a good photographer, writer, and educator that leads a workshop in the the Palouse annually or more often. He has a $20 video course "Photographing in the Palouse" that might give you some ideas about locations and timing. Probably not places to stay. Note that I have not seen this course, but have been pleased with other offerings from him.

We spent 5 days there in May. Stayed at the Best Western in Colfax-the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed. Had 5 different hot breakfasts included. drove around 1400 miles on country roads. Get the maps at www.terilou.com. cost about $25 but worth it. If you want to be there at harvest, call the hotel. I have an ag background and it was one of the best places I have ever visited. This is the only place we have gone where my wife said she could live there. I would recommend Colfax as your center, however no good place to eat so we drove to Pullman-- only about 15 minutes away. There is a good grocery store in Colfax. Enjoy. Would go back in a minute to see harvest.

I'd be glad to offer something, Mike, but my information is around 60 years old. Looks like there's a lot of help here for you, so just looking forward to seeing what you come up with. IMO you are from a great scenic area I only caught at Interstate speed.
Cheers

I had some relatives that lived there.
Pullman has an interesting history. Mr Pullman was a genius flake, turned freak.
ie, his cronies convinced him to raise rents AND lower wages- Army arrived to shoot at protesters.
I don't know if it's still there, but there was a kind of reenactment of a Lewis and Clark encampment. Lifesize silhouettes scattered as if posed.

I appreciate your thoughts, Neil. We love Utah, but decided that we had to take advantage of our location to visit our neighbors.

If you follow the link (http://palousemap.blogspot.com/), there's an interesting story about how the Pullman Chamber of Commerce allegedly stole the map developer's intellectual property.

You cannot trust elected officials? I am shocked!

One other thing about motels. During football home games motel rooms will be hard to find the closer you are to Pullman or Moscow.
