My trusted d 610 has become disfunctional. the fEE error flashes no matter what lense is mounted and whether set on manual or auto. I have tried blowing off the cpu contacts on the camera body to no avail. Any suggestions before I throw in the towel and mail it off to repair land?

I Googled your title and came up with this:

https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/ni/NI_article?articleNo=000001426&configured=1&lang=en_US

Unless all your lenses are set wrong, it looks like the camera is the culprit.

I have had this happen when older lenses are mounted , and are not set at the smallest aperture setting (f/22).

Had the same problem with my D610, Cleaned both the camera and lens contacts with a microfiber cloth and a little alcohol and mounted the lens. Actuated the shutter a few times and then everything worked. Good luck.

If older manual lens is used don't forget to set lens aperture to smallest opening AND engage the aperture lock button.

In the manual there is a section that covers this.

You can call Nikon. They would talk to you on the phone and tell you what to do just in case it's an operator's error. If it's not then they would recommend you to send it to them for repair. That way you're sure not sending a camera in for repair for some operator's error.

You have to get a little more aggressive than just blowing dust off. Since none of the lens are making contact then I would concentrate on the camera mount.

Any lens with manual aperture adjustment that does not have the aperture on the smallest opening; f:16/f:22 and locked there your camera will give the fee error in any mode.

thanks for all the replies; one error I made was setting the aperture to f2 instead of f22 in the non cpu setting. My 200-500 will shutter activate but won't autofocus; so- I have some cleaning to do tried alcohol q-tip with no result.
