A bird group on FB I belong to a women posted a video of her father's liquor store in Ridgecrest - a mess. The city has also reported broken gas lines and at least 5 structure fires as a result.
I worked at a Ralph's Supermarket in Huntington Park when the 1971 Sylmar/San Fernando 6.6 quake hit. My mother and I were just fixing breakfast and shortly after the phone rang, it was the market calling to see if I had classes at the University or could come in an help - at overtime/holiday rates. I went in combat boots, jeans etc and spent a good part of the day shoveling broken glass and the contents in several isles and the liquor department. We used first a hose and then a commercial size wet vac to get rid of the booze - hosed it out the door and down the storm drains - must have been a lot of drunk rats etc in those storm drains for a while. We had a very good crew that was heavy on college students, a few of us veterans. By afternoon we had the shelves completely restocked and floors clean (except the liquor dept, some of their new stock came by special truck the nest day) and totally open for business shortly after noon. The store only missed 9 AM to Noon from our regular business day. I and others from the midnight crew worked all day and then our regular shift until midnight. Then we went out for a midnight breakfast together at the local Denny's.
