ya know, there's more to the Rodeo that what's happening in the Arena. The audiences are composed of Cowboys and Cowgirls of all ages, in bright and brighter colors. And then there's the HATS! And the Vendors. A balance of shots from the Ropin' and Ridn' action and the participants and spectators should make a great series of photographs.

As in any indoor arena sport, especially if not televised, the lighting is dim, so do your best with a stable camera hold and the lowest ISO you can manage. (I think a little subject motion blur is preferable to camera shake. And noise can usually be PP'd away). A Rodeo is never complete without a big smile and a hearty YEEE HAAAAHHHH. Have fun--and don't skip the kids.

You should read the rodeo regulations about spectators using photography equipment. The rodeo near me limits cameras to 3 inch long lenses.

Interesting, what do they say about a zoom lens that starts out at 3 inches and goes to 6 inches at full zoom? I wonder how they police that.
The reason for most of these regulations is because your sitting very close to the person in front of you and they do not want your lens hitting the head of the person in front. Can't blame them.
When I had my press pass I had no worries. I shot right at the fence with no problem. Wish I still had that.

I shot a rodeo couple years back. I don't do seats. I wander around. All my arena shots were through the rails of the fence. I get down on my knees and get nice action shots and I'm not in any ones way. That angle put me at about level with the bulls, and a bit lower with the horses. The angle gave some nice perspectives. I do not sit still at any event whatsoever. Never had anyone complain. Maybe they think I'm official or something. Enjoy. High speed shots for the bull riding and bareback broncs.
