Market consolidation and probably inventories of the Nikon D3500, the Nikon D5600, and the Nikon D500 getting to the point where new manufacturing runs would be necessary. Or let it dwindle to the point where remaining inventory will be sold to "dumpers."
I am anticipating a Pro Mirrorless version ( Z8? ) in 2020 or 2021.

If the rumor is true, kind of surprised they're dumping the D500 in favor of the 7500, but perhaps that somehow jives with their mirrorless lineup.
This story has sped around the internet as if it were the Gospel truth when in fact it is a rumor reinforced by speculation.
It could be close to what the future holds but for now it is still BS

I've been thinking that they have too many overlapping cameras in the D3xxx and D5xxx designations - this may give them a more "rational" lineup.
