A big majestic plane in the 1940s that expressed our top technology. Built big and strong enough to be able to carry then days one single atomic bomb. Stalin wanted these so badly they reverse engineered one that fell into their hands and began to produce them after WW-II.

The Tu-4, they made over 800 and used them from 1949 to the mid 60's.

I like the men standing in front of the nose. Would love to hear their conversations.
I grew up around the guys that bulit and flew B24, B36, B58 and F111. Those were good times.
Those planes flew over our house. Love to watch them and listen to them.

I am reading the B24 story ( George McGovern) by S. Ambrose. Very interesting to learn that a B24 Pilot was paid an extra $9.70 for each combat mission. That extra $339.50 for 35 missions sure came in handy. That is $4,932 in current dollars. Seems like not much to put up with -50Deg temp, Flak etc. Greatest generation ever ( says the Baby Boomer)

Neat. I was hoping to ride on Doc, but the only ticket left was $1,200 for the bombardiers seat...too expensive, but I managed to take pics of her and Fifi last year or '17 at OSH in formation (I froze the props, too). I had bought a ticket for Aluminum Overcast about a month and a half ahead of time and still only got one of the last flights of the week! WWII was way before my time, but it was still cool to ride in a piece of almost history (Aluminum Overcast was built too late to see combat, but it had been refitted as if it were original).
