That is a bummer. I have bought a lot of equipment at the Samy's in Orange County. I've been to the old Samy's in Santa Barbara before they moved to State Street. They probably should have found a cheaper lease in SB if they wanted to stay there. State Street has to be the highest rent district of all of Santa Barbara. I've also been to the Samy's in LA near my favorite restaurant Johnny's Famous Pastrami.
Man I hate to see this. All the people I bought from are slowly closing.
Samy's is on ebay. I bought my last camera, an open box item, from them. Was in mint condition at 27% less than new.
Such camera shops are slowly becoming the thing of the past as more and more photographers are turning to exclusively large online retailers for their equipment needs.
Thank the gods of retail, we still have Samy's here in San Francisco. It's a wonderful friendly place to visit for just about anything photographic.
No store of any kind can survive without customers. So if I expect there to be a walk-in store, I feel obligated to shop and buy at them.
Had to read the post to make sure the Orange County Samy's was staying open. I still have an alternate in Riverside, CA with Image One.
Oh that is definitely a bummer. I am sorry to hear that. There are a few Samy’s around this area, they do ok because of the film business out here, but the closing of that store does not portent well for the future of brick and mortar camera stores.
