This is unfortunate because I have found B&H to be the best resource when I really started
to get interested in image and sound making. I had an AV company and then a production company
mainly for corporate shows national sales meetings on location.

I would be in NY stop at B&H. Wanted to buy a starter audio kit that had quality and still was affordable.
One of their guys spent time with me explaining my options and the quality involved.
One mic is still on my interview setup for video today.

And the rest of the gear is still in use sometimes.
poles etc etc. Other times I would go to NAB and look at gear and trends. But at B&H a rep talked me
out of spending more money for a camera that another one could do the same thing for less money.
I have had nothing but good experiences with B&H. And think today's rudeness and impatience
(not saying the gentlemen's tripod) has infected us all.

If you want to be mothered, buy from a local, mom & pop store. You were given the information you needed, quickly, and without fan-fare! Not the stellar customer service they are known for, just a brittle New York attitude that come through once in a while (I am also from NYC). Hope you tripod gets fixed. Best of luck.

I know this post will likely trigger the B&H faithful into attack mode, but I wish to tell my brief story.

Earlier this week, I noticed that one of the rubber feet from my Sirui W-2204 Tripod had somehow shaken loose and had been lost...yes...bad on me.

Precisely because numerous UHH members sing the praises of B&H, and I had purchased the tripod from B&H, and after searching their website without success for Sirui replacement rubber feet, I called-in. I spoke to 'Jacob'. I explained my problem and asked if he might know of a compatible replacement rubber foot.

Before I could even take my next breath, he gruffly responded "You'll have to call Sirui." So what was missing here? Well, no inquiry as to whether I had purchased the item from B&H, no mention of "I'm sorry we can't help you with this matter but...."

Just a gruff "You'll have to call Sirui," after which I politely replied "Thank You" and ended the call.

BTW, I called Sirui USA and was told that I must submit a service request on their website complete with serial number and bill of sale/receipt. I located the information, submitted a request and I haven't heard back from them yet.

Despite my displeasure with B&H, I did order another manufacturer's replacement product from B&H and it is now installed.

So I ask, where's the customer service? Where's the courtesy?

TY

Offended because the company didn't kiss your ass over a two bit part they don't stock? That's New York

A first post is a good start, but as far as I'm concerned, this is the type of thread nobody needs to get involved in. The OP had an unusual experience and vented. What follows is an unnecessary recitation of similar {and much more common} opposite experiences.

No. The OP's post had no place here. The OP obviously needs professional help. Unfortunately that type of help is unavailable here.

I went back too look at the OP's posts and since there are only 90 of them it was easy to identify the previous time B&H was the subject of his ire. The first time it was an accusation that B&H was being deceptive because they did not ship on Saturday as he expected since the banner read next day shipping when he made the purchase on Friday. It's also not clear whether he was expecting next day shipment or next day delivery. His post certainly seemed to imply he was expecting Saturday delivery. In any case the item shipped Monday which would have been the next business day for whichever shipper they would use, as one would have expected. B&H may be open Sunday, but the shippers aren't. That was enough for him to accuse them of being deceptive. I remembered that thread when I saw it and I believe at least a few people posting here also posted to that thread.

Here is his nasty and accusatory post from that thread called "B & H Buyer Beware", as well as the link to it. Needless to say he got a lot of negative feedback.

"Just a word of warning regarding a deceptive business practice on the part of B & H. Today (Friday before Noon), I ordered an item.. a large font orange banner on the page declared "Free Next Day Shipping To (my location). When I checked out I learned that the free delivery was to be Monday, rather than tomorrow, Saturday. Several discussions with various unhelpful individuals at B&H resulted in no change to the delivery date. A condescending explanation was offered that next day delivery is actually next business day delivery (a big difference on a Friday order).

So, I hope listserve members recall this deceptive practice the next time someone sings the praises of B&H, and especially because when a certain online competitor that is frequently bashed on UHH offers free next day delivery for any particular item, Saturday delivery IS a part of their service."

I too am avoiding B&H. When i lived in Brooklyn, I called it bureaucracy and headache. When I ordered after moving to the West, I bought a camera that didn't work properly. The man said, without even listening summarized "She doesn't like it" I learned that they rent equipment and will sell a previously rented camera as "new" because technically it wasn't "sold." Adorama does this sales trick too, though their customer service was a little better. I have a feeling Glazers and Kenmore in the Seattle area do the same with returned rentals.

That's absurd. You can't sell a rental as new just because it hasn't been sold yet. That's not how it works. Once the box has been opened and the camera removed and operated, it's no longer new. That's why stores have demo units. Rental units are either sold as used or returned to factory service for reconditioning and then sold at a discount.
Based on what you're saying, a car dealership can sell a rental car as new just because the car was never sold before.

Thanks for sharing. The OP is obviously a complainer. His post did nothing to tarnish the reputation of B&H in my mind.

I am very sorry for this uncharacteristic experience and regret anyone here was in any way less than professionally courteous. If you can tell me the date and approximate time you called and the number you called from (yours, not ours) we can find our recording of the conversation and review it with the employee in question.

Was it the correct answer? Is it true that B&H does not have spare parts or can't get them?
If so, that frustrates the heck out of me.
The big box stores are like that and I hate it.
Little rubber feet on a tripod are consumables. They are the type of thing that should be stocked because they always come off or get lost.
It's like not having a battery for a camera. I know B&H sells batteries.

It depends on the brand. And it depends on whether the part (rubber feet) is characterized as an accessory or a repair part. We carry many accessories but rarely have repair items. We get asked about replacing battery compartment covers and the little doors for memory card slots all the time. We don't have them. OTOH we do have rubber feet from some Manfrotto, Gitzo and Induro tripod models.

While I am sorry you had an unsatisfactory experience, the fact is that B&H does not have a rental department and has never had a rental department.
