billnikon raises a good point about fill flash. I don't know about the FZ-1000, but my FZ-200 will not do fill flash in iA mode. Also, iA mode does not allow you to select between the three metering modes. (I want spot metering most of the time.) For these reasons, I usually use P mode.

I have a different Panasonic, but I think it might be similar. "P" has been well described as an automatic selection of matching shutter speed and aperture. It gives a range of matching settings. You can shoot JPEG or RAW.

"iA" goes further than matching settings for exposure. It picks "modes" that might apply to situations like "night", "macro" or "portrait". You should see an icon in the upper left change. Those modes can be selected manually.

By way of example.... I was shooting an recent lunar eclipse on a tripod trying different "P" and "A" settings. I took the camera off the tripod, switched to "iA" and handheld with a very long telephoto. The camera switch to a night mode, took several exposures, aligned them and "stacked" them in camera for a delightful JPEG. It was the best shot of the night!

With my Panasonic in "iA" you can't force fill flash. But, it will use it if it "thinks" it is a good idea!

"P" stands for "Programme" mode which is similar to the "M" mode where you have to set everything manually, these includes Aperture, Shutter and ISO.[/quote]

I'm not sure what you're saying, buy I think it will tend to confuse things for most readers.

In M (manual) mode, you must set all things yourself for each exposure, generally shutter speed, fstop, iSO. In P mode, the camera makes all those decisions, you set Nothing. So they are not similar, but dramatically different.

If you cannot increase the font size of a download then stick with A mode AI, P, A, S and M would seem to be beyond you.

Now that is being a SMART ASS.

What the hell are you on about, the OP only wants to know what the "P" mode does.

Also use AI+ instead of AI.

I own the FZ-1000 an usually shoot in the P mode. I choose this mode because it allows you to go in the menu and set the sharpening, contrast, saturation of colors to your liking rather than what the camera chooses. I really like the 4K video for grandchildren playing ball as you can choose 8mp pictures from the clip. Hope this helps.

That's the problem. The "manual" is printed so so small I can not really see it that well. As for your smart ass answer, thankfully there are people on here that truely want to help.
Sorry to offend you. I see you are so very sensitive. Without being like you...Many people have helped out here without snide remarks. Much of this stuff is stuff I once knew and i know it is so easy for a such a knowledgeable person such as yourself. I on the other hand, have had a stroke and am relearning so much basic stuff that it is embarrassing sometimes. I can only hope that people like you don't have to relearn things like I am having to do. And for your information, I have a real hard time researching some of this stuff as it is hard for me fo focus and concentrate for to long. Sorry, I am not up to your standards. I just am thankful for those online that take the time to help people like me that are trying to do something than just sit in a chair and wither away.
