Here in Hawaii we have a BIG problem with toads, specifically cane toads. The cane toads like so many other invasive species here were brought in by sugar cane plantations to solve a problem (mosquitos) but, of course, the toads propagated without bounds. More importantly from a dog/cat owner's perspective the cane toad has toxins in pockets on its head that can kill or seriously sicken a dog with even minor contact. It can be a long and painful way for a pet to die too. So here toad/pet encounters are serious matters requiring quick intervention.
