The US will pay a huge price with the economy, the environment and national security for having our heads stuck in the mud regarding renewable fuels. Other countries around the world lead while we have too many old conservatives who just can't accept that there might be a better way forward than fossil fuels. Every day, we get further behind and the oil, coal and gas executives are laughing at us.

United Kingdom

The UK is a windy place and wind power is growing in importance. Using a combination of grid-connected wind farms and standalone turbines, the United Kingdom now generates more electricity from wind farms than from coal power plants. Some days, Scotland is able to produce enough wind power to supply over 100% of Scottish households. Neighbouring Ireland also continues to set new records, with enough energy to power more than 1.26 million homes being created on just one windy day in 2015.

Germany

For a cloudy country, Germany looks set for a bright future with solar energy. Their renewable energy output including solar has increased more than eightfold since 1990. In 2015, they set a record for meeting up to 78% of the country’s electricity demand with renewables on one highly productive day.

Uruguay

Uruguay is a shining example of how to do it right. Thanks to a supportive regulatory environment and a strong partnership between the public and private sector, the country has invested heavily in wind and solar power, without using subsidies or increasing consumer costs. And as a result, it now boasts a national energy supply that’s 95% renewables-powered, achieved in less than 10 years.

Denmark

Denmark aims to be 100% fossil-fuel-free by 2050 and it plans to use wind power to achieve that goal. They already set a world record in 2014, producing almost 40% of their overall electricity needs from wind power and the latest figures put them firmly on track to meet their first goal of obtaining 50% of their electricity from renewables by the year 2020.

China

They may be the world’s largest polluter, but China is also the world’s biggest investor in renewable energy, with huge investment levels both at home and overseas.  China now owns: five of the world’s six largest solar-module manufacturing firms; the largest wind-turbine manufacturer; the world’s largest lithium ion manufacturer; and the world’s largest electricity utility. China is fully committed to reducing fossil fuel consumption and with its heavily polluted cities has every incentive for doing so.

I would think that the polluters of the world would be of more importance. China is committed to selling the world what they need to go green, and is motivated by money and profit. China pollutes the planet, so no matter what the rest of the world does, it matters little. Look up the countries that are the biggest polluters. China, Russia and India produce the most greenhouse gas emission as well as other things detrimental to the environment and they are not changing. Look at the big picture.

Thereare about 5600 coal plants either currently running or under construction, mostly in India and china. of that number 15 are in the US. Comes to about 0.3% .That means if thre US stops burning coal it wii have .03% reduction in coal pollution. Or virtualy NO impact on CO2 levels. So much for AOC's prediction of 12 more years if the US doesnt stop it's CO2 levels Not decrease but Stop

Where did this fake number of 15 coal plants come from. Currently the are about 241 coal powered plants in the USA.
Where did you get your stats?

you are right. my numbers were wrong. even if there are only 2500 coal plants in the world and 241 in the us. mthat means that the us produces 1 % of the world pollution from coal. still a minute amount of worlds production of c02

We say the same thing in Australia but the figure is much lower.

Maybe what AOC meant was that we have 12 years if we don't end coal usage, and we'll have 12 years and 9 days is we do? 12 years of a lowered standard of life in exchange for 9 days sounds like the oxymoron that is 'leftist math'.

Is there a way for you to impact that source. We can impact the human sources.

I was up in Kodiak Alaska and went into a WalMart and they do not give out plastic bags. You bring your own bag or they just throw the crap in a cart and let you figure it out.

Actually the entire world is producing way too much plastics. And dumping this stuff in the oceans ought to be stopped. There should bee very stiff penalties forplastic dumping

We bring our own shopping bags or pay a premium for plastic. Sometimes I think it's an Al Gore scam to sell hemp shopping bags and enslave us all.
