What do you do when you have a camera at your disposal and you're waiting for your horse to get new shoes? The answer was clear to me.
Thanks for the images, it feels like "Old Home Week" as my wife and I had a small horse operation for 20 years or so and we enjoyed the horses immensely. However, I never agreed with putting steel shoes on any of our horses, our Farrier trimmed the hooves for barefoot riding. I also noticed that with 3 farriers, one must have been teaching the others?? Also noticed the shoe he was installing was one I am not familiar with. We had "Foundation Quarter Horses", and stood two stallions with several mares. We sold foals and semen for the most part. Having the foals and raising them until sold was the most enjoyment for me.
I did a lot of Horse show photography and have had two of my images (of our stallions) on the front cover of two Foundation Quarter Horse Journal magazines.
Enough of the horse talk, again, thanks for the images. I really enjoyed them.

Great set...I used to do some of this work...challenging at times!!
Nice photos. Well mannered horse. I used to assist sometimes and not many of them would stand peacefully while being shod. Sometimes it was downright dangerous.

I tried going the barefoot route with this guy. Thoroughbreds are not known for thick walls or soles, so this horse has had to have shoes on the front hooves at the very least.
I've been involved professionally since about 1976, but have ridden most of my life. I'm not retired from training but still give lessons.
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed these Roger. I'm sure other horse people will chime in.

I'm glad you took time for this set Earl. I can't imagine the shoeing process is much different here than from down under.
Thanks so much.

Many thanks CB. I'm glad you liked the series and my horse. FYI He's a great grandson of Secretariat but wasn't interested in racing. I think he'd rather take time to smell the flowers (or eat them!).

Many years ago, I had our farrier teach me to trim. I made it through three hooves before my legs gave out. The lesson learned was that it's worth every penny to pay a pro to do the job.
Thanks for the visit and comments Bob. It's always good to hear from you.
