You won't find "Le Harve" in France, either.

Having recently returned from a monthlong trip to Europe, I wanted to rant just a bit about the way the tourists seem to have no respect for anyone but themselves. They will walk in front of your camera, hold their iPhone up in front of your lens just as you snap, walk into you as your setting up because they’re looking at a cell phone or as the case in this photo, just totally screw with your shot. Yes, I can clone it out, but why can’t people just have some consideration. This dude just walked up and set his camera in front of mine while I was shooting in Venice. His shot could have been done on the other side of me, there was plenty of room that late at night. Took all I had to not bump him over the side of the canal

The local people are fine, but it’s mostly the hordes that get off the Cruise Ships that are such as#0/e$. And of course dipsticks like this guy.

It is not Europe, it is the US, China, Canada, anywhere you travel today. Folks want to capture as many memories as possible, just like you. But, in there desire to get the image, they have no couth. Thankfully you have some.

I suggest shooting only the first few hours of daylight. Most of the idiots you are referring to are still in bed.

Awareness over amplified from a lens perspective, pegs the frustration needle, meanwhile the tourists are living in the real world, and enjoying their vacation...

Why didn't you move forward about 4 feet. Just in front of his camera. He may have gotten the message that way!

Then there would be nothing to rant about.

"Photo bombing" is a prevalent hobby. Many practitioners abound.
Many a$$holes are just bred that way. ie: I drive from LAX to Tahoe for a reunion. A$$hole BIL hears I'm getting up early to take sunrise shots. HE gets up early to "keep me company", basically nattering to me about "unnecessary" hobbies. The Sun starts peeking. Camera on tripod. shutter 1/30, Nikon clicker so I don't have to touch it. When I take @ 30, I go over to peep my doings- and BIL starts throwing rocks in the water. He says a little action will brighten up the scene. ?!?! I manage @ 20 more with the clicker- I'm 5 feet away from the camera, so he's not moving. We walk back, most folk are moving about, and he announces the right thing to do is for me to offer him 10% if I sell any of these.
Yup. Sure thing. A$$hole me accidentally deleted *every* picture of him and his wife.
We're in the middle of the selfish selfie generation. Celebs stopped most of the meet&greets here- some a$$hole will run up, cheek to cheek, FLASH!, run off. Bozo ho, fresh perfume and lipstick, runs up, plants one, FLASH!, runs off.
Websites are full of duckfaces and full booths in restrooms.
A$$hole steps in front- "I don't see it- what are you looking at?" "The good side of an a$$hole!"
This is LA; we'll get people jostling for selfies at crime and accident scenes.
Just accept there will be a$$holes, a large percentage, and learn to go around them.

I have, through various jobs, lived in several locations that would be considered big "tourist traps". You don't have to have a camera to learn to hate the rude people who invade your home turf.

I missed the part of your story where you politely asked the dude to move his camera back 3 feet.

Oh...maybe it didn't happen that way. The absence of people in your shot seems to indicate he was not part of a cruise mob.

While my wife and I were living in Germany for 18 months, 2016-2017, we saw huge crowds pushing through Dresden but never got involved with them. At the Christmas Market it was very crowded but there were no tourists that I remember. I was able to take photos at will. We interacted with the local people and I even handed my camera to someone I didn't know to snap a photo of my wife and I sharing a kiss under mistletoe. During our stay in Germany we visited a lot of sites in Saxony during our free time and always blended in with the locals. It does help if you speak the language and are familiar with the culture. We were always seen as Germans, not tourists. My wife is German, by the way. We had no problems with tourists while we were there. I wish we could go back but my wife's health won't allow it, I fear. Might I add that Dresden became like home to us. I had read about the fire bombing during the war but never dreamed that I would ever be able to visit the city, much less live there.

No tourists, no experience, no cultural exchange, no discovery, no memories, no photos, no thank you.

I went to NY once and was waiting at the second lift on the Empire State. A couple pushed in front of us and took the last place in the lift, the lift attendant said he would be straTheight back. We had a discussion on our trip up. The attendant said the couple were German and for the 20 years he had been an attendant he said the Germans were the most impolite race on earth followed by the Dutch.

Chinese tourists are far worse than anyone with the possible exception of Russian tourists.

We travel in the off-season and spend enough time that we an try to time things to avoid crowds. Renting a small apartment and hanging out in Paris for a week, for example.
But of course, some places are never uncrowded - the Mona Lisa, the Vatican, etc. In cruise destinations you can sometimes find online a cruise ship schedule so you know when the ships are arriving, but cruising seems pretty terrible in terms of seeing anything - a few hours in port to rush around and then rush to get back on the ship....
