I am selling my Canon 500mm f/4L IS. The lens is in overall good condition, there are a few chips in the paint but overall it is not overly scuffed up, the lens hood does show significant wear from use, it is a large lens and the hood seems to have taken the brunt of bumbs and rubs but there are no dents or damage other than superficial cosmetic damage to the hood. I have seen a lot worse. The lens functions beautifully, it was serviced and cleaned by Canon about 2 years ago. My reason for selling is that I purchased the latest version of the 300mm f/2.8L IS, and that better serves the type of photography that I am currently doing. One of these images shows a tele-extender which is not included with the sale. The images taken of the moon and birds probably included the use of a 1.4X extender, this lens is compatible with a 2X extender and will maintain auto focus on any the newer EOS bodies.
The price on this lens is $2750 plus $100 in insured shipping. The sale includes the lens, the Canon carrying suitcase, and the lens hood and lens cap.
I would but it if I had someone to carry it for me. What a moose!

If painted in o.d. or a camouflage pattern, I'd suspect it was a new type of man portable anti-tank weapon. Obviously capable of outstanding`photos in the right hands, though.
