No, you would be wrong. You could only crop it a little from 44mm to 36mm.

In that case I'll cancel my order

Any thoughts on the Fujifilm gfx100 or phase one 100 plus mp Camaras? Why and when is such a high mp needed ?

Not needed. Kinda like high horse power in a car. Who needs a 840hp Hell Cat? But, if you have the money you can buy the 100mp camera and drive to a photo shoot in your Hell Cat.

Crop ability
Color depth
Extreme detail
50 mp gfx might be the sweet spot.

Yes you make a good point.

But if you have the need then it can be critical. A team my son drag races with just dynoed their 521 cu in twin turbo door car at over 4,200 hp.

If someone needs a very high mp camera and has the $$$ I am sure they are happy to have it.

My biggest thought is how long it would take for me to master it. When looking for a Canon 5DIV a year ago, I came upon a ridiculously inexpensive - used - 5DS (50mp). It has taken me almost a year to get to the same level of proficiency that I have with my 5DII. The additional mp's show even the slightest movement and higher shutter speeds than 'normal' are required to get a sharp photo. I often shoot the long end my 150-500 Sigma handheld at 1/400th and get super sharp results with my 5DII. The the 5DS, requires at least 1/800 to get marginally acceptable handheld. Which usually means higher ISO is needed also.

The noise from the high ISO tends also to be more pronounced at low light levels but this can be managed. I had to micro calibrate all my lenses to the body because even a slight back focus issue caused noticeable lack of sharpness at what should have been the focus point. This can be mitigated by figuring hyperfocal distance and shooting accordingly in some cases but for detail it was hard to get focus right.

PP also is slightly different and a larger/denser monitor comes in really handy along with more memory and more/faster cores. Then there is some limits to what Lightroom can do when making panoramas - tried to do an 11 panel panorama recently and after 2 hours of trying, Lightroom just gave up and shut itself down.

I know there are others who probably did not experience these issues but for me, its been an adventure. I see light at the end of the tunnel now for my 5DS struggles but couldn't imagine how much more involved it would be to 'learn to shoot' a 100mp camera.

I love that even medium count full frame cameras rival the resolution of film.

My 24mp APS-C Pentax KP gives me much more resolution than Kodachrome 25 ever gave me using 35mm with the same lens.

Anybody can be happy with a 12 Mp. camera. Ask owners of D3 and D700 bodies.

Or for that matter who "needs" a 2.8 million dollar Ferrari La Ferrari? That they rarely drive.

I've noticed with ever increasing MP cameras, it sometimes seems like too much sharpness, too much detail...... reminds me a lot of the move to 4K and 8K TV's, the huge increase in sharp/detail can be very unkind to older actors/actresses, makes one want to dig out the old soft focus filters (I still have a couple). Don't get me wrong, I love technically sharp, great detail, but it can be very unflattering for portraits, street/people photography. If doing macro, or photos of subminiture circuits, etc, it is great. How many of us actually need 100MP, some no doubt, most of us, probably not...... the RAW files and PP files must be huge at 100MP. My $.02

When I started photography years ago, I spent all the money I had for a Pentax
K-1000. It is still a terrific camera and in pristine condition. Then a little more time and more money later and I have the Canon AE-1. Then along came the EOS Rebel and I had just enough to buy it and only one lens. After Hurricane Sandy, I pooled all of my overtime pay to buying a Canon 5DII and one lens. (I'm not a professional photographer) I picked up two lenses along the way. When the Mark IV came out, I drooled about it. Yet I didn't buy it but I treated myself to a tilt-shift lens. When the price of the 5D Mark IV came down significantly, my loving wife surprised me with it. All the cameras I own are great. I'm sure that the Fujifilm GFX100 is a great camera based upon the reviews I have read and seen. But, I'm not buying one now because I really can't afford the hefty price tag. Hopefully, the manufacturer may surprise me with a gift of one and an 18-135mm lens. I'll put it through its paces and give a full report including pros and cons to anyone interested in listening to me prattle on. Wait! I have a better idea, if each Ugly Hedge Hogger would chip in a buck, I would then have enough money to buy one. But that is not going to happen either. I'm happy with what I have now.
Just remember my friends, a camera is just a camera by any other name. The real difference in the photographs is the nut behind the viewfinder.
