On a monopod/hiking stick or tripod put the camera on 2 second delay if you have it, or 10 Second if not. Gives time to breathe out, hold your breath, and steady the monopod. Then wave to the eagle flying past.

Opinions on hand-held or monopod or tripod support for Z6 camera for a a few days photography visit at Yellowstone and Grand Tetons will be appreciated.

I usually shoot most times handheld, but I always have my tripod and/or monopod near, so I can switch in an instant!

Oh, yes! Tripod for the Tetons and Yellowstone, as well as handheld and zoom. In 2016 we hit Glacier and Yellowstone in early September and last year Moab mid-April, then in late April the Tetons. Lots of room to shoot, crowds weren't bad, though. In summer the rule is early to rise gets the best chance at lookouts. If I want crowds I'd rather go to the fair

Crowds are terrible in the summer, especially August. For the most popular hikes and areas, say the south Jenny Lake or string lake parking area, get there early to expect a parking space.

We were in the Tetons in 'April and were glad we packed the tripod.

I truely can't believe that if you were an experienced photographer of any level you would even concider such a trip without a tripod/monopod of any type. Neither deserves being left at home as each will justify there being bulky and in the way at times with the quality of shots you would miss with out them.
On my photo trips I carry two Canon rebels - a XTi w/ 18-55 on a camera/binocular chest held harness - allways at hand instantly and a T3i w/18-200 mounted on a trip pod w/ a pistol grip ball head set at a height that with the legs closed to a mono pod position it works well as a hiking stick/monopod/instantly opening tripod.

See photo attached.

Early on before I switched to a mirrorless, I found that a bean bag resting on something solid gave even less camera motion than a tripod when using my 400 mm. I always mentally attributed that to mirror slap being dampened by the bean bag. I don't know if a bean bag is still better in a mirrorless world but a good beanbag can be made for a bunch less $$$$ than buying a good tripod. If a beanbag would work for your kind of photography, give it some consideration. Besides, a beanbag is less awkward to carry than is a tripod.

Hi, I’m there now! Weather cool but sunny today! Depends if you are on your own shooting or with a tour? You don’t have time on a tour for anything but handheld. On your own lots of us using tripods and monopods. All the wild life you want to see is just off the road between Jackson and Jackson lodge in the area called Jackson Hole! A boat ride from colder bay gives you a great view of Tetons! So does the lodge area in front of it. Get a pass if you are a senior for the park, gets pricey by the day. Animals seem in 1 day were, grizzly bear and cubs, moose just had baby within hour, elk herd, bison herd, pronghorn (antelope), Canada geese, bald eagles, that’s it. No wolves yet! I have a Nikon 850 new, and a Nikon 28-300 lens, brought too the Nikon 200-500 lens. Haven’t even used it yet! Internet is spotty, Verizon best in area. But can’t always send photos! Beautiful trip so far, Mormon road had great Old barns! Going to Yellowstone tomorrow. Hope this helps.

There is a reason that landscape photographers use tripods. But if you are not going to be critical, and don't want any big enlargements, you can get away without a tripod. If you use one, it will slow you down considerably. That will make you take fewer pictures, but possibly better ones.
I don't know that a monopod will help you much, except for maybe a few shots. I would go for the tripod or just forget it altogether. Depending on your photography style.
