In 1947 the US Navy built 13 concrete piers each more than 1/4 mile long to house part of the mothball fleet after WW-II. The docks were home to some 600 ships, but by 1963 the ships were all gone. All 13 docks (like the one pictured) have been slowly decaying over the last 50 years and see very little current use and no maintenance.
