While in Alaska this month, we visited the quaint little town of Hope which lies on the northern end of Kenai Peninsula, on the south shore of the Turnagain Arm of Cook Inlet, across from Anchorage. The community lies on the 17-mile Hope Highway. Once the road ends, there's no more Hope, literally, the road ends in hope...
In 1889, two years before gold was discovered in the Klondike which began to lure people north, miners discovered nuggets in nearby Resurrection Creek. Soon prospectors found gold in nearby Six Mile Creek, and the rush to Turnagain Arm began. At one time Hope numbered 3000+ residents but the 1964 earthquake, the second largest ever recorded, took its toll on Hope. Its now home to about 200-300 full time residents but swells dramatically in the summer season with thousands of tourists, campers, hikers and fisherman. Its an absolutely delightful little hamlet that's worth visiting if you're ever in Alaska, its definitely worth a side trip and hopefully you'll have something we had little of...Sun...
But seriously, AK is great no matter the sun or not.

.
In the Greek story of Pandora's box, hope was the last and never left.
It was for the better as hope was the most evil of all the vile plagues and problems contained in the vessel.
Hope prolongs the misery of man.
Interesting Myth's...thanks Wallen for the interesting insight.
It looks to be a photogenic area. If I ever make it up there . . . .
