I spent many hours just taking this photo. My camera overheated for the first time ever! I took the photo I was after.

If you download then magnify you will be able to see a drop of nectar on her beak and her tongue sticking out.

Absolutely outstanding!

Robert, I sure you will remember that I was taking similar photos about four years ago then stopped, simply because I could think of a way to top the last photo I had taken and posted on UHH. I thought of way to improve the depth of field and bokeh so there was a new challenge. I spent about six hours today adjusting my flashes and other stuff. I wore a path in my grass running between my camera and my "hummingbird trap." Believe it or not, I also had to train/condition the hummingbirds to come to the place I wanted them.

WARNING!!!! Do NOT go full screen on this image if you use a 4K monitor.!!!!

I just got a personal message from someone who did. The bird flew out of the screen, defecated on his key board and is currently harassing his cat.

Are you sure it isn't the birds who have trained the human to put out nectar?

While it would have been nice to see the beautiful fuchsia flowers in focus, that would have distracted from the amazing sharpness of the hummingbird. Really nice!
