arrg... I was only able to stand less than two minutes of that dreck.
Basically, it's one right-wing nutjob reading to us an article by another right-wing nutjob (I guess most righties can't read for themselves), giving his (right-wing nutjob) interpretation of a government report.
Now, tracing through all that to the actual government report (
https://www.ussc.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/research-and-publications/annual-reports-and-sourcebooks/2018/FY18-Annual-Report-and-Sourcebook.pdf ) we can turn to page 58 and we can find the chart he based this on:
CITIZENSHIP OF FEDERAL OFFENDERS BY TYPE OF CRIME
Fiscal Year 2018
Citizens Non-Citizens
TYPE OF CRIME TOTAL N % N %
TOTAL 68,903 39,458 57.3 29,445 42.7
So, that seems to settle it, right? Well, no. First of all, it's "non-citizens" rather than "illegal aliens" -- so it included legal green-card holders, so really has no bearing on the claim that the undocumented commit fewer crimes. Further, it's only *Federal* crimes. The vast majority of crimes committed are state crimes. It's actually kind of difficult to commit a federal crime. (if you kill someone, then escape leaving the state, the murder is a state crime, the crossing state lines afterward is a federal crime)
Now, if we look at "Type of crime", we see what's going on:
Immigration 23,868 2,033 8.5 21,835 91.5
So, most immigration crimes are commit by non-citizens. OK, got that.
but what about the other crimes:
Citizens Non-Citizens
TYPE OF CRIME TOTAL N % N %
Administration
of Justice 723 559 77.3 164 22.7
Antitrust 53 51 96.2 2 3.8
Arson 55 53 96.4 2 3.6
Assault 685 629 91.8 56 8.2
Bribery/Corruption 316 296 93.7 20 6.3
Burglary/Trespass 41 37 90.2 4 9.8
Child Pornography 1,416 1,386 97.9 30 2.1
Commercialized Vice 146 126 86.3 20 13.7
So, when we look at all other crimes, we see that citizens commit them about 10 to 20 times as much as non-citizens.
