Please don't destroy it. Please consider donating it to a local high school. I'm doing that in honor of my son who passed away. Our website is www.BGMFoundation.org.
My son was learning photography before he passed away. That camera is collecting dust and I cannot bring myself to use it. So I have set up with a local high school a worthy package. It will include a Canon 5D Mark II a lens a battery grip, a wireless file transmitter a camera card and a tripod too. We will have brass plates to commemorate the donation. We will have an assembly and ceremony in the fall.
If you like the idea, please follow through rather than destroying the camera. It was a great camera then and still is.
If you choose to you can donate it to my son's foundation. I will pay for shipping. I will provide you with a 501[c][3] certificate. You will get a tax deduction of 300 dollars. I will put a plaque with your name on it. You can also be my guest for the ceremony.
If you don't like my idea, please accept my apology my friend.
I can be privately messaged.

In late April I posted this Canon outfit with the very reasonable price of $269.00 including USPS shipping within CONUS. My original total cost of assembling the outfit was $360.00. As of this evening, 766 UHH members have viewed it, but no one has been compelled to express interest or make more than a lowball offer. My offer of TCTNW (the camera that nobody wanted) will be withdrawn and the camera destroyed. Have a nice evening. /Ralph J. Wallace

Ralph, there are a lot of other things you can do with this camera other than destroying it. As someone who has several vintage film cameras, I can not imagine destroying any one of them. Pouting is not going to get you a sale. Reduce your asking price to be more in line with the current market.

This was a great camera and a young student would love to play with it.

Place an add on Craigslist, 'Free to Good Home', or donate it to your local pawn shop.
It will get far more exposure there than here.

Ralph, Last Friday I sold two cameras and traded a third one. The two cameras(Retina Reflex IV with three lenses// Nicca 3-S with a 50mm Russia lens.) I lose money on the two cameras. Third camera was Yashica Model A. traded for Nikkormat FTN with Nikkor 43 to 86mm lens. I had over $350.00 in the Retina and Nicca, sold them for $250.00. This whole transaction happen because I stop at a yard sale. I not fooling around, I will pay for the shipping of that Canon AE-1 Program to here.

First try googling canon "What is a Canon AE-1 worth"
You'll find that the person commenting earlier was correct.
I may be the only one here but I say go ahead and destroy it.
When you're done destroying it take a good look in the mirror, then destroy it too.

You posted something trying to sell it. Numerous people had no interest and passed on it.
Now you're angry because someone didn't want to pay top dollar for something which you have no problem smashing. Go figure.

Maybe many of us should give up photography every time someone doesn't praise pictures we post.
etc etc etc.
Anyhow, if you do decide to destroy it, be sure to take a pic and post it.

You seem a little cynical. Encouraging some to destroy a gem as a Canon
AE-1 seems reckless. IMHO, I think the AE-1 was a great camera and still is.

Rather than sell anything like the camera, I think all who post on this thread should consider a simple fact. I believe that all of us should invest time to teach others to photograph. I will be donating a camera package mentioned earlier. While it is not a great deal of equipment or extremely valuable, it is something I can do in a humble gesture. I hope to get a teaching license and teach others. That will take time.
Bottom line, all of us should do something with our talents to benefit others.

Not to let the air out of your balloon, but last week, while purchasing a Nikon F100 off Craig's List, the gentleman tossed in a mint condition AE-1 Program for $50, including a 50mm f/1.8 FD lens. Canon made thousands of these, but they do have limitations; you can only shoot program or shutter preferred modes. I didn't expect the $50 offer to hold, but he agreed. I was quite willing to go to $125. I wouldn't put a price on his merchandise.

Here's the kicker: I only paid $200 for the Nikon, and it included a 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D Nikkor; a Lowepro bag; the Magic Lantern Guide for the F100; and the MB-15 battery pack.

One of the local dealers has the AE-1's all day for around $125 with a lens, or as much as $170 for the AE-1 Program in mint condition, again with a 50mm f/1.8. I've passed up a number of them at antique shops, mostly because they're overpriced @ $175.

You may also be looking in all the wrong places for a sale. Try Craig's List, or even eBay. Start eBay at $.01, and a straight 5-day auction.

Paul - This sentence is incredibly stupid. Why, if the camera was “grossly overpriced” should my efforts to give it away have worked out badly? For an extremely smart fellow, that is a really dumb thing to say. Do you think I should auction it on eBay? Why should I go to that trouble if it is only worth, as everyone says, 5¢? My remaining two digital cameras will be sold for 30¢ on the dollar. Cameras are dead, the cellphone is king! That is my last word on the matter.

Ray, you are sounding like nothing more than a grumpy, old man feeling sorry for himself. Did you enjoy using that camera? There is your payment and reward.

I was robbed recently and among the loot taken were two Nikon FTns (and associated lenses) that my father and I used for decades. I miss those now-useless machines because of the memories (and still-existing pix) that they gave Dad and I. I've already replaced my stolen D800 with an even better D850, but I don't love it like I did my Nikon FTn, which I dragged all over the world.

Stop bitchin' - be happy.

Sir, with a respect. I must agree with the price being high. You spent about twice what I buy these for. I am selling three more under 150dollars(sorry to others, gone), and keeping one. Their day has sadly passed. That is a beautiful piece of machinery.☹️

Ralph,

Please consider donating to this group or one like it. Check out their website:

http://www.kidsinfocus.org/

Their mission:

"Kids in Focus programs inspire hope in children ages 10-14 who come from backgrounds of poverty, homelessness, neglect and/or abuse.

The kids receive much more than a camera. Mentored by professional photographers, together they take a journey of creativity culminating in a public photography exhibit, a hardbound book, and a new self-confidence for the future. The program empowers the kids to explore, to trust and to see the world in a new light."

Good luck to you,

Bob

If you donate you can take a tax writeoff for the value. Kill two birds so to speak. Get a receipt if you can.

In a desperate attempt to save that beauty, please consider what I have posted earlier. I didn't know that this gem was up for sale. I can't purchase it with my son's foundation money. We cannot justify the financial expenditure. If you are interested, I will pay shipping to Brooklyn. I can even treat you to dinner. You can be our guest to the donation assembly. We will place a brass plaque on the camera with your name on it. I offer a tax deduction of $300.
I have mentioned this before on different threads. I have been told that a tax deduction would not work for others. In this case, please consider private messaging me.

looks like a nice camera, my 19 year old granddaughter uses my old AE-1,(with duct tape around the back to keep light out as gasket is shot) I don't know what the difference is from a AE-1 program, but there are still some young ones willing to learn, the biggest problem is the cost of developing the film. Hopefully you find a home for it.

I use Mike's camera in Boulder. If no prints made and a CD only it is reasonable. The development cost is PER ROLL, so get 36 print film.
Film on line for $3 or so per each buying a dozen. Hope the granddaughter gets an up grade soon.

Only prime lenses from the film era seem to have much value today. I ended up donating my bodies, zoom lenses, slide projectors and darkroom equipment to the local hospice thrift store. Cost me hundreds in the 70s and 80s. I guess toys are not a good investment. 🙄

Good luck.

I will offer $100 and pay the shipping, and I will donate it to the beginning photography class at our local community college. They will love it. Message me with how I can pay.
